Can not log into geocaching.com

Recommended Posts

Inspiron laptop /Win7 / IE8

Have tried many times & various ways to log into GC.com

The page just keeps repeating "welcome Visitor"

Why can't I log in?

(obviously I CAN log into forums)

the Mr likes to peruse GC.com on the family computer

me, the Ms, like to peruse GC.com on my laptop at the same time

>break< ok, now, I've logged off the family computer

Still can't get past "welcome visitor" on the laptop

Have a missing cache I need to archive, looks like Mr needs to give me a chance at the other computer

Was never a problem before

:(

Did you open your ports and give away your I.P. address. I did once and I couldn't sign into my credit card.

I'd start by deleting my temporary internet files.

Today i was not able to login with my username/passwort at geocaching.com. Then i set a new (the old one again) via the email-procedure. Now i can log in again. Maybe Groundspeak broke some passwords with the update?

I tried resetting pswd too, didn't work

Change Password screen: Click here to log in.

Log In to Geocaching.com screen: "you are logged in as curious4cache"

however when I click on Visit Your Account Page

I'm thrown right back to the Log In to Geocaching.com screen with username and password prompt fields.

Do you have cookies turned off on your laptop? From the preview video that was posted last week, it seems that logins won't work without cookies.

No do not have cookies turned off

I tried adding http://www.geocaching.com specifically to allow cookies

restarted IE8

didn't work, still can't log in

thanks for the suggestion!

It might be time to shoot an email to contact@geocaching.com

Wait, wait! It appears as if you are logging on, but it doesn't "stick" when you go to a different page on the site.

Are you blocking referer, or are you perhaps using a proxy?

Do you have JavaScript enabled?

(Edited because cookies have been ruled out.)

I don't know how to "open ports"

It was a joke. Seriously though, never open your ports, and giving out your IP is also a no-no. I originally phrased it, "Have you tried opening your ports and giving me your IP." as a joke. But changed it, because I didn't know if you knew it was a joke. Luckily I did change it...

I run popup blocker ON, and have not had a problem logging onto GC.com before. Just in case, I turned it off, restarted. -No change

Do you mean something else by "blocking referer" ?

JavaScript was a little wanky. I enabled it (was running without permission) -No change

Then I ran the updater from java.com to get version 6 running -No change

Am I using a proxy? I don't know. How do I determine that?

Thanks!

GOT IT!

thanks to DCMG, who had the same problem:

...would properly type in user name and password, but would be redirected back to the login page (if there), or the main page with the box at the top would continue to show as a visitor.

They discovered they had added GC.com to their list of trusted websites in IE. Once removed from the list of trusted sites, they were able to log in and stay logged in. "Seems like something in the "Trusted sites" zone of the security tab in IE tools->Internet options was preventing the logging in from sticking."

Thanks to all for your suggestions!!
