+Lieblweb Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Greetings! I did a quick search on here & google and didn't find specifics (or I suck at searching) Are there outfits/businesses or even groups that will take you out (tour guided) on an extreme cache find? Of course, pay them to take you out.....and/or rent equipment, etc. We have some vacation time coming up and although 'normal' caching is definately on the agenda - I'd love to find some caches that aren't the normal everyday finds. Perhaps some extreme ones that require specialty equipment & experience/knowledge that I don't have. Something that a tour guide could provide while allowing you to enjoy the thrill? I think my spirits could tackle it, but afraid my body would hate me....but hey, it was worth asking!! Thanks ahead of time & Happy Caching!!! Quote
+mpilchfamily Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 I believe you posted in the wrong section. This section if for Geocoins. But no i'v heard of no such venture. Its an interesting idea but in order for a business venture like that to work out the business would have to place and maintain the cache. That might not go well with the caching guide lines. Quote
+ElliPirelli Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 It would help, if you could tell us WHERE you'd like to cache and also which kind of cache you'd like to find. Canoeing, climbing, or else? What do you consider extreme? If I where you, I'd rather stick to those caches, I can manage. Often the description gives a fair warning, which special equipment is required. You could always contact the owner of a cache, which took your fancy and ask him/her, if they would provide you with equipment and assist you in reaching their cache. Geocaching isn't really something you do with a tour guide, at least not over here in Germany, where I hail from... Also, this topic should be moved from the coin forums, it has nothing to do with geocoins. Quote
+LewisClan77 Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 You might have better luck asking this in the general topics section. I am not sure if there are any guide services that will guide you, but if you found some caches that caught your eye you could post a note on the cache page stating that you are interested in attempting the cache and you would probably find that others are willing too. +Panther&Pine Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 I would enjoy a company/guide service with a caching program. One that provided a guide and special equipment for some of the better caches out there, but I don't know of one. Often you can ask the CO and they'll have some ideas. Although depending on the place it might not be a particularly local CO so that might not work out. Quote

Why wouldn't they just charge you a rental fee for the equipment and the guide? I don't see why they'd have to own the caches. They could probably place some, but it seems like they could do it without it being commercial. Quote
+A & J Tooling Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Or you can pay someone to actually go out and find it for you. Hey, maybe I can work that into my kids' allowences? Quote
knowschad Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Not that I have ever heard of. I have heard of a company or two that does teambuilding sessions for corporations, but that is not what you are talking about, obviously. I don't think there would be enough interest in it, to be honest. Are you looking for somebody to guide you, or are you considering the possibility of setting up a guide service like that? Quote
+cerberus1 Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 There's a few places in the Poconos that have a little tree climbing and zip lines across the tree canopy. The Pocono Pleateau Camp and Skirmish (the paint ball crowd) are some. They have folks doing all the work, give you the basics, then let you play. None I know of have caches at them. I see you haven't any finds yet higher than 3.5 in terrain. Maybe some bouldering, kayaking or tree (hand) climbing will fit to get you started and progress from there. Quote
+niraD Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 REI offers occasional geo-kayaking classes here in the SF Bay area. They are essentially the same as their normal beginning kayaking classes, except that the class stops for the nearby 5-star (specialized equipment) kayak caches. Equipment rental is included. There is enough demand for them to offer a few geocaching-oriented classes in addition to all their other classes. But I don't think there's enough demand to support a business that offers only geocaching-specific tours. Quote
+Lieblweb Posted May 5, 2011 Author Posted May 5, 2011 Thanks Gang!! My apologies in putting in the wrong folder/area. I thought I left it in the 'general' This forum isn't like the others (phpbb) I visit. Thanks to the mods for moving it!! I've thought about e-mailing some CO's about their 'more extreme' caches - but - I really don't wanna bother these people in their daily lives. The last thing they need is an unknown person asking them to spend their free weekend time with people they don't know. That's just me.... I don't want to disrespect their privacy (so to speak). But - I'm still new and haven't really searched out events, and my work schedule stinks preventing me from attending most events. Again, with vacation time looming...I think we want to get out of the state (PA) and get some 'un-ordinary' fun/adventurous caches in while on vacation. I need to do more researching!! In terms of extreme...we haven't done any. Our hikes have been under 1 mile and I experienced rock climbing at the local mall I can't say we're not willing to go farther - just don't have the knowledge, equipment, and confidence to go it alone. From my expirience caching in several countries of Europe I can tell you, that nearly all caches, especially those outside urban areas, show you interesting countryside or special locations you never would have found without this cache there. There is no need to do daring things to proof yourself. You still will find great places. Also I would start with something like a longer hike and make sure to have enough water with you. (And some chocolate...) You'd sure find enough to tell about in your log. Quote
