Andronicus
I didn't think anything about it the first time I saw it, but lately I've had a number of logs on my caches by more than one user which are prepended with the text Logged from my phone using the Geocache Navigator by Trimble. A Google search for the phrase revealed hundreds of logs from many different users, so it looks like the software is sticking it's little advert into people's logs. Yes, I realize that the GeocacheNavigator software was developed in cooperation with GC.com, but this little bit of advertising tucked away in people's log entries just bugs me a little. I don't know why... maybe it's because I've always seen the log entries as a place for the finder to share their experiences about the hunt, and this removes a little of the control people have over the content of their logs. Then again, do finders have a choice as to whether or not this little plug is added to their logs? If there's a choice, I don't have a problem with it. Has anybody else noticed this, and if so, does it bug anybody, or is it just me? --- Posted from my iMac using the Firefox browser by Mozilla I know there are several threads about this already, but I have now decided (as of 10 minutes ago) that I like when finders have one of these tags added to their log. But I guess that is the key; ADDED. If that is the whole log, it is very lame. I think it is cool to know that the finder logged from ground zero using their phone. It is also nice to see other technocrats (refference: Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon) who log from mobile devices at GZ like me. Quote Link to comment

Mr.Yuck
Holy Crud. The most amazing thing here is that that post is from 2007! Not unlike when Questmaster (since banned)was starting lame micro threads in 2003! Hey, I had a cell phone with a built-in Palm PDA that was capable of going on the internet back in 2000. It just never occurred to me to log Geocaches from the field with "TFTC" logs on it. Quote Link to comment
+Viajero Perdido
I don't even know what a Trimble is, but I know I hate it. Logged from my computer using a keyboard, a glass of wine, and some time to reflect on the fine caches of the day. Quote Link to comment
+Ecylram
I usually log my finds while at ground zero. I don't like "Logged from my phone using the Geocache Navigator by Trimble" type messages in the logs. They provide no useful information to me and come across more as an advertisement than log entry material. In my experience they are often a substitute for a personalized log entry. They are, perhaps, my least favorite type of log entry. Quote Link to comment

I agree. I don't like having that auto line as a log, I like having it in addition to the log. Quote Link to comment
+stevetash
My Blackberry uses the trimble software and just to let you know you can get rid of it. When i get to a cache site i can simply click on "found it" and that is it. When i get home i can log onto this site and go onto my field notes. At this point no log entry has been added to the cache. From my field notes i will then create log entry. From there i can write my little story or whatever. It does have that automated message in the text box but you can delete it maybe people dont realise you can simply backspace it all out. Edited April 28, 2011 by stevetash Quote Link to comment

Sounds similar to when you edit a cache log multiple times, you can edit out all but one of the "this post was edited by Mr. Yuck" lines, which appear as text on the end of your log entry. I've seen many a thread about this Geocache Navigator text over the years, but never paid too much attention. Looks like a $5.99/month subscription service available for many phones and carriers, but it does not appear to be available for the Iphone. I suppose the problem people have with it over the years is the advertising. The Official App doesn't advertise itself. C: Geo doesn't advertise itself. If I'm even allowed to mention that by name here. Quote Link to comment

It's only on this website you get it when you actualy post the log, its as if Groundspeak have aloud trimble to put that little sentance in. But yes, when you post your log you can simply take it out Quote Link to comment

It used to have a "Logged From..." line, but a dispute with Ground Speak ended that (a year or so back, GCzII was "the app you must not speak of"). GCzII allows you to use field notes as well, but you can add in a log to the field note if you like. You can then either edit and submit the field note as a log from the app, or from geocaching.com. DelSue
I don't see the problem. To me it is just a handy little tool to act as an aide memoir of your days caching. As Stevetash mentions you just open your field notes delete the ad and insert your log. And you can do this while at home with a nice glass of wine!! Quote Link to comment
+SeekerOfTheWay
I'm into smartphones so I also like to know what phones and apps are being used. If someone state what GPS thy user, I'd like that too! Also, leave stats like how long it took you to home to, and find, the cache. When I had my BlackBerry I use Geocacher Navigator ($9.99, one time fee). I have an Android now but mostly use my Garmin GPS. However I log EVERY cache from the field, the cache site using c:geo. I love, after find the cache, taking pics, sitting down and composing my log in the fresh air. Nothing better. It keeps me outdoors longer, makes my logs more detailed because they're fresh in my mind. Nothing better to me! If anyone reading this finds my caches, tell me what equipment you're using in the logs! Edited July 31, 2011 by SeekerOfTheWay Quote Link to comment

It doesn't necessarily mean we used them to hide our caches. Quote Link to comment
