Carms Cache Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 We have thre children who take caching. Usually we only do 3 a day. The kids love to swap items of equal or greater value. The kids take turn to swap. If one of the caches has no swaps then we end up that only 2 of our kids have had a treat that day. My question is if we go to a fully loaded cache can we swap 2 or even 3 items for the same number of items (swaps equal or greater value). Quote
+LewisClan77 Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 YES. You can swap out the entire cache if you trade even. Quote
+A & J Tooling Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 I do. If there is nothing to swap, I dip into my bag so the next kid doesn't feel the dissappointment my kids did. But if there is a lot of stuff, both my kids can swap if they so desire. They ALWAYS do even if they have to swap for less. I think, that even if they only own the item for a few minutes, they get a thrill out of it. Quote
+Mick-n-Nick Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 We never limit ourselves by anything but what we have on hand to put back in the cache...so knock yourselves out! Quote

Look for the size of the cache, the larger the more likely to have more swaps. I have a theory, that the closer to a built up area, the more visits a cache gets, the lower the standard of swaps... The downside of caching with kids, they don't want to walk very far! Quote

That's how I do it. I don't bother with the micro's unless they state that they have swag (which seems to me it shouldn't be a micro). As for the kids not wanting to walk, that is what the whole trip is about (to me). Interact with the kids, let them lead, you just basically point a route and let them take over. Listen to them. Enjoy their perspective. Enjoy your time together. It's quite an experience. Now, every day, its: "When can we go again" over and over and over... Quote

+CacheTestDumbEase Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 My younger daughter doesn't like to walk but she LOVES finding micros. I think it makes her feel good that she can find them so quickly when me and the hubby have to looked forever. My oldest went on a 4+ mile hike with us last week and never complained at all. It's all in the kid. My kids sometimes both trade, sometimes only one trades. Whatever tickles their fancy. The older one carries her own geo bag and if she takes one thing out she always puts two things in. The younger one doesn't like to go in the woods so if I see something she may like I trade for her. We were recently in another state and came across several caches that were completely empty except for the log book. I had just stocked up on kiddie swag though so we just put a bunch in for the next ones to come along. I figure if someone else can go through the effort of getting that cache out there, the least my family can do is throw some swag in it. Quote
