Day-trips you want to take this summer.

Summer's coming, which for me means plenty of day trips!

I'm personally going to

Centralia, PA

About 120 miles from me

I want to go because it is one of the oldest still burning towns. It's been on fire for 40 years. I will pick up a nice earth cache and possibly some regular caches if I can brave out the unstable ground and the chance of falling into the fire.

Washington DC

About 150 miles from me

I want to go because of all the attractions, from the washington monument, to the White House, fun all around. I plan on uping my virtual cache finds 10 fold.

Intercourse, PA / Blue Ball, PA (Both of these are less then ten miles from each other)

About 70 miles from me.

Many of my family members have been here, and what really piqued my interest is when my sister took a trip to both these places and Baltimore a couple weeks ago. I want to go because honestly, I've never been to an amish town, there's a few regular caches here, and all the local amish attractions could make these two places a fun visit.

Baltimore, Maryland

About 120 miles

I already wanted to go here even before my sister went, I plan on going seperatly from washington D/C but I-95 passes through here so I'll get a sneak peak.

Cape May, NJ

About 100 miles.

I go to Wildwood New Jersey almost every year, which is another beach about 5 miles from Cape May, but i've never been to Cape May. I plan on staying for a while, but I really want to find a cape may diamond.

I don't know if I'll get to go to all of these, but i'll defineatly visit a few this summer. What day-trips are you planning?

I'm hoping to make it to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas this summer.

I was talking day-trips. This thread would be pointless if it was pretty much any type of trip, because you can in all honestly go anywhere in the world with enough money, whereas day-trips vary from person to person depending on where they live, which makes this thread so much more interesting.

We got our lottery ticket pulled for a Mt. Whitney permit for a day hike in July. We'll see if the snow melts fast enough for us to get to it.

I don't have any day trips planned but have several weekend and longer trips planned.

Next month I'll be going to Washington DC for about 5 days. I've got several meetings schedule so I don't know how much geocaching I'll be able to do. I'm still trying to decide whether to fly or drive (it's about a six hour drive) and just might drive so that I can find a few geocaches on the way. I may also go back to DC in July for a conference.

In June, I *might* be going back to Beijing for a week. It'll depend on whether travel funding will work out but I might fly from home to Rome for a couple of days (again, for work) before going to Beijing, then back home. I may be able to squeeze a few hours for geocaching in both locations.

More tentative trips include a weekend in Rochester, NY and a long weekend trip to Boston. There are several possible trips in the fall in Europe and/or Africa but they're very tentative.

Those could be day trips for someone living in AZ.

I don't have a caching day-trip wish list. Everywhere I would want to go for one day, I already have. I'll just find cache dense spots that I haven't been and go.

Vegas is about a 4 hour drive, the Grand Canyon is even closer. I could easily make them day trips.

I'm hoping to take a trip to Paradise at Mt. Rainier National park. Nothing unusual about that, I live near enough that I take the drive around the park almost once a year.

However, I just got my second total knee replacement, and I am hoping by Aug. I will be able to hike the Skyline trail. It has always been one of my favorite hikes, but it has been many years since I've been able to do it. :)

I'm hoping to do a few of the caches at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN (roughly 40 minutes from home) as well as a series that is placed along the stops for our light rail system. Also there is a park along the Mississippi that I've been waiting for the flood waters to recede so I can go knock out some of the 100+ caches there.
