R/GBOTS Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 It seems that a maintenance log is an invitation to raid the cache of new swag. I've decided it's best to not post maintenance visits. Quote
+StarBrand Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Sorry. Not my experience at all - ever. Never heard of it either. Quote
+mpilchfamily Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 If someone logs an NM on your cache then you do a Maintenance Log once the problem has been fixed to remove the NM attribute from the listing. Far to many COs don't do this. So far to many cache listings look like they never get maintained. If keeping swag stocked in your cache is a problem then don't leave any. Have you refilled it without placing a ML? It may be that some local muggles know about your cache and check it from time to time to get some free toys. Quote

knowschad Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 I'd sure like to hear the rest of THAT story! Not anything that I have ever run into in real life or on the forums in the 6 years that I have been doing this. Quote
+Ambient_Skater Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 It doesn't seem like much of an issue to me. Posting an Owner Maintenance log clears the NM attribute so I'm not sure how you're going to be able to keep your visits hidden. You can post the log and then delete it, but people with your cache on their watch list will still know. Quote
+pppingme Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Maybe its in the wording of the log, don't brag about filling it up with swag, keep the log simple. Quote

I used the "Owner Maintenance" log to show "Owner Maintenance". That was my mistake and my point. From now on I will only use the log to clear NM attributes. I guess that is all it was intended for. No problem. Quote
+popokiiti Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 I have seen maintenance logs state that the cache has been restocked, but never heard of anyone having their cache plundered until now. Perhaps a simple "maintenance performed" notation with the Owners' log will prevent this happening to others. Perform a few of these, with no swag and the plunderers may get the message. Quote

Not anything that I have ever run into in real life or on the forums in the 6 years that I have been doing this. The CO has been stocking his caches with gold nuggets and every time he re-stocks his cache there is rush to empty it out. I had the same problem when I was placing gold in my caches. Now I avoid it by stocking my cache with things that are only worth a dollar or two. Nobody really seems to care enough about $1 WalMart rain ponchos, packets of insect repellent wipes and travel sewing kits to make a special trip to empty out my caches. Quote
