geocaching.com maps don't show finds

Recommended Posts

Quite often when I log into geocaching.com in Firefox the maps do not display my finds as smileys. Instead the caches ares shown as traditional "not found" icons. What actions do I need to take to correct this.

I assume you are just going to "hide and seek a cache". I tested this on two computers (Mac and PC) in Firefox and it works ok for me on both. I would recommend trying to clear your Firefox cache (cookies/temp. files) and retrying to see if that clears it up. Other than that make sure you are using the latest version of Firefox and if all fails try Google Chome. I have been using it as my primary browser and it loads pages so much faster than Firefox did.

Yes, my geocaching.com-Google-Map is also not showing my found caches (just past noon EDT today - Sat. Apr. 23, and also around 9:00 a.m. earlier today). I first noticed this problem a few weeks ago on Saturday and Sunday, during peak times. Later in the day, things return to normal. I wondered if Groundspeak is "throttling" the results during busy times to provide the basic Google maps with caches without identifying FOUND caches.

My guess is that this is a result of them working on the beta maps.

On the geocaching.com Google Map, if you look under the Premium Member filters, you'll see the message "Personalization of the map is currently unavailable. Please try the Geocaching Beta Maps in the meanwhile!"

Showing your found caches as a smiley is a personalization feature.

No, it's a result of them not having upgraded their resources in time and so they had to disable the smilies on the busy weekends.

Not just weekends - no smilies on the "classic" maps 1-2 weeks ago on a weekday, no smilies today (a Monday) on the beta maps.
