How Many Favorite Points

Recommended Posts

I seem to be stuck around 88 - I've given some to caches and Earthcaches I have really enjoyed, about 10 to 15 in total. Then we go caching, and I've earned them back again!

I still have 165 remaining. With 4970 something finds that means I had 497 to use which means I have given out about 320. Course, I am one of those who actually went through their past finds to figure them out, so many folks I know just do them going forward minus the absolute creme de la creme ones of the past.

.......can we trade thm in for CASH???

I'd type something about setting up a clearing house for favorite points trading, but it's already well after April 1st, and I'm too depressed from working on obscure bugs all day.

1of the 5 I've awarded went to one of the first caches I found some 9 years ago. I went back recently and found it srill had all the old log books. Another awarded to a long archived cache. I just can't find that many caches that are that memorable. Maybe I have too high a bar.

Had to go back a find a cache that I had swam to (1.06 Miles one way) in January in the Pacific Northwest to get the FTF if I could have given more then 1 point I would have.

just depends on your perspective. You even admit you only do traditionals right? Well, you are basing your favorite points SOLELY on the hide. Well, maybe the view/experience too. However, if it was a puzzle, well, maybe I give a favorite point because of the puzzle. Maybe the Earth cache was really educational. Maybe the virtual was in a great spot (Dungeness Spit comes to mind). Maybe the letterbox had the coolest stamp ever. Maybe the multi had 2 other great waypoints even if the cache itself was boring.

Thus, at least for me, solving/doing a lot of puzzles will give me more incentive to give a favorite point vs just driving up to a cache and finding it, but thats me. Could be one reason for ya.

Of course, yeah, you could be setting the bar too high too, or I could be too low. I did 25 caches yesterday (I think it was 25). I gave 1 favorite point for the 1 puzzle I found because the container was large, had lots of great swag and was nicely made. Besides, it had no favorite points yet and I felt needed at least one. I gave another one to a traditional for a good hide. 2 out of 25 yesterday got one. One cache I DNFed would have gotten it if I could have found it I bet.

I bet I know which one that was, I remember reading your log on such a cache once.

I have 32 total and have 12 remaining. And to be perfectly honest with you, I haven't geocached anywhere absolutely spectacular yet, so I consider my favorites list to be very temporary.

I have 188 of my 311 remaining, even after I awarded Favorites to the great caches I have done in the past, including the Archived ones. I certainly am earning them faster than I give them out -- I wish my paycheque worked that way!

I'm wondering if the people who are having problems finding enough worthy caches for favorite points have went on a lot of powertrails? That would kind skew the ratio of finds vs. quality finds.

I used all my favorite points, but I tend to be more selective in the caches I search for.

I would agree this is a factor of it. I imagine most of these "power" trails get a lot of favorite points for the first or last one but hardly any in between. I wonder why? Hrm. Actually, I do not wonder why.

It is pretty common on Power trails to only post Fav to the 1st one in the series, or the experience you had.

3 remaining.

I think people are too stingy with them. I give them to caches that take me to nice places. I don't worry too much about gimmick containers and stuff... but they can be fun too.
