+gotwalp Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hello, I have been geocaching with my 6 year old daughter for a few months now. We were using the iPhone 4 and just recently purchased a GPS (Enudura Out&Back). One thing I would like to do is when we are out and about... I want to use the iPhone (with Groundspeak app) to find some caches to look for, then enter the waypoints into the GPS. When I tried this, the unit tells me I arrived at the location when getting close but not there. I notice when I download GPX files to the GPS, it helps me right to the correct spot. Am I doing something wrong by entering waypoints? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Gotwalp Quote
+gotwalp Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 (edited) Still looking for an answer on this one. We went out today and found the first part of a multi cache. I entered the waypoints for the second part in my GPS and when I am about 30 feet from the destination, it says destination reached. It makes finding a micro difficult. Any help would be much appreciated. -Gotwalp Edited September 3, 2011 by gotwalp Quote
+mpilchfamily Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I think the unit treats Geocaches and regular waypoints differently. Unfortunately i don't think there is a way to enter the cords as a Geocache. Trouble with Lowerance units is they are not very popular so not many people here have experience with them. I for one have no experience with them. In the past the company hasn't been very supportive of the Geocaching side of there units. Recently i've heard conflicting things. First i was hearing Lowerance was going to stop supporting Geocaching with there units all together then i see a none corprate company rep around the forums. They claim they do not work for Lowerance yet they are paid to do customer support for them. Kind of odd. Quote
+EdrickV Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 A Garmin Nuvi I used would pop up a similar message when getting near a cache. I just click OK and keep going. (It still shows the cache on the screen.) It was not designed with Geocaching in mind at all. Quote

You then move about as you watch the coordinates change. It might take you a couple of seconds to determine where north is, but once you do it is pretty easy to get within a couple of feet of GZ if you have reception with a good spread of the satellites. If the only sats you can lock onto are closely clustered, 30 feet might be the best you can do. Quote
+Hawkins2.5 Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 The first GPS unit I owned told me "Arriving at destination" with about 40-50ft still to go, but it still told me how far I was from the coordinates so I just keep following the compass to get me closer. My current GPS beeps at about 40-50 feet which is, I assume, telling me the same thing. Like a previous poster, I have no experience with your unit (both of mine were Garmin) so it might not be the same but I would imagine there is still a way to follow the arrow to the specific location.
