+train4347
My wife and I own a restaurant and pub and want to leave business cards with coupons attached in cache locations as a prize or reward for your search and find. I hope this is okay. It will be kind of a cool way to bring in a little more business and meet some other geocachers if we are there personally to verify the coupon when they redeem it. Anyone have any ideas like that for their businesses? Quote Link to comment
+train4347
I see nothing wrong with it, and they would have to find a cache first to put them in. Quote Link to comment
+dirt_empire
I personally do not like finding coupons, free-drink cards, stamp cards (full or otherwise), etc. in caches. I find it tacky and sad. Maybe if you left coordinates on a laminated and reusable card that would work. If you made caching an integral part of your business as well (though how a restaurant/cafe would do that I am unsure) then that would validate the idea a little more. Overall I would say no, but if you made it fun and creative and somehow related to geocaching then yes. Tread carefully. As knowschad said, you might actually want to geocache yourself. That way you get a feel for the sport before you start to piss off the community you are trying to serve. Quote Link to comment
+dirt_empire
Also, you might want to fill a cache of your own with these cards instead of distributing in someone else's cache. Filling your own cache full of these cards would be an okay idea, whereas placing them in someone else's makes you seem like a day-worker putting fliers on cars in a mall parking lot. +The_Incredibles_
Sorry, OP, I don't like the idea. You may think it's OK if it's just you, but what if every business got the idea to do the same? It would quickly become obscene. I also find it really tacky that you used the name of your business as your caching name. Geocaching is not supposed to be commercial at all. If I found a coupon in one of my caches, it would go straight in the garbage. Edited April 15, 2011 by The_Incredibles_ Quote Link to comment
knowschad
I am considering putting out a new cache, but with today's gas prices, I can barely afford to drive around looking for a place to hide it, much less pay for the swag to fill it. Given that, I am here to announce that I am looking for sponsors for my geocache. Your company's name on the outside of the ammo can: $300 per side Graphics/Logo on the outside of the ammo can: $1500 per side Coupons or other paper advertising as contents: $5.00/dz (you provide) Specialty items with your business/product's name on them, see our catalog Obviously, this is satire, but please consider the implications before saying that the OP's idea is OK with you. It is a very slippery slope that we are treading here in saying that we don't mind a few little coupons in a cache. Edited April 15, 2011 by knowschad Quote Link to comment
