+user13371 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Either way, I'd not be inclined to try it with my own iPhone. Or Garmin. Or DeLorme, etc... iPhone dropped from skydiving plane. Quote
yogazoo Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) Sounds like it was fun to hunt down and retrieve the phone. A new form of caching, phone caching. All in all it was a one in a thousand fluke. Edited March 24, 2011 by yogazoo Quote
+user13371 Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 Sure, if you have a phone or GPS that includes a "find my device" feature and it survives the drop. Quote
NordicMan Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 ..yet it may not survive a drop from 3 feet It's all luck in the landing Quote
+user13371 Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) Yup - multiple drops onto concrete (demonstrated by a company who wants to sell repair services) are a lot more likely to cause damage than a drop through pine trees and a soft landing on grass It seems like every consumer electronic product has anecdotes on both sides. "I dropped my (insert brand name here) on my carpetted living room floor and it shattered into a zillion pieces!" versus "I dropped mine out of the car window and it got run over by a semi truck six times before I could retrieve it, and it still works!" ALL need to be taken with a grain of salt or other suitably cynical condiment. Edited March 24, 2011 by Portland Cyclist Quote
+Viajero Perdido Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 I was cycling down the side of a highway when I passed a piece of a cellphone. Then another. And another. Five in all (body, antenna, battery, battery cover, and faceplate). So I went back, collected them all, reassembled them into a cellphone, turned it on, and ... it worked! Looked up "Home", called the owner, and said come and get it. Five easy pieces. Quote
