Accommodation in Vancouver

Liz and Bruce

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place for this entry but we are an Australian geocaching couple, Liz and Bruce, and are visiting Vancouver for a week between the 27th May and 3rd June before doing an Alaskan cruise. We are looking for help in finding reasonably priced accommodation for that period and would also like to meet up with some local geocachers if possible. We have visited an internet site which shows Bed and Breakfast accommodation but not knowing the area it is hard to choose. So if someone was able to give us some advice we would really appreciate it. The site we are looking at for accommodation is http://www.airbnb.com/search/?location=Vancouver&af=173684&c=srch_van_bnb&gc. Our team name and real name is Liz and Bruce and you can check us out. We have travelled extensively in Australia - this is our first geocaching trip overseas. We just want to do some geocaching around the central area and are happy to catch public transport and would like to be able to get from the airport to the accommodation reasonably easily.

with kind regards - we can be contacted via geocaching.com Team Name Liz and Bruce

Thankyou

You can catch the Canada Line (subway/train system) from the airport to the downtown core of Vancouver. There are several reasonably priced hotels in and along that route. I have stayed in Holiday Inn, The Sutton Place, The Sheraton Wall Center, The Fairmont. All of these hotels were good experiences but definitely varied in price point. Hopefully, this can get you started in your search :)

If you want to get to the accomodations from the airport easily - i'd suggest looking at the river rock resort - it's a relatively new/nice hotel/casio development on the fraser river & is located right at the bridgeport station of the Canada line (which has a terminus right at the airport).

Havent stayed their ourselves (and not likely to being local and all), but we have been to a few shows there & the buffet's not a bad deal either! Some of the other hotels mentioned are also very nice (the fairmont in particular - there's one right AT the airport), but also quite pricey (the fairmont and the sutton place in particular).

trip advisor's a good place to start looking.

I dont see any events during the timeframe you have, but it's still a fair way's off. the local caching commmunity can be reached easily through the BCGA's website:

Welcome to Canada - in advance! There's a geocacher visiting Vancouver with hubby and also going on a cruise. Her name is ayrbrain and you can contact her through her profile and ask which hotel they chose. I think they are staying on Burrard St...but you'd best check. They are planning on a few caches in Stanley Park. Depends on deals you can get, and what sort of price you have in mind also as to hotel.

We stayed at the Fairmont at Vancouver Airport...just because we love planes and we deserved a treat. You can watch the planes and see the mountains from the bathtub if you open the shutters.

Thanks to everyone who has posted a reply. We have booked a Bed and Breakfast place out Richmond way. It looks very nice and the bonus is that the host Lori is willing to collect us from the airport and also take us a week later to the cruise ship for Alaska. You never know we might even recruit her to do some caching  .
