A geocoin in a cache

As long as you are not taking the coin away from its mission, I think you can even move it today if you like. Just because it landed in your cache should not mean it is bad form for you to move a trackable. If it is my trackable and you move it along, you have my thanks regardless of whether you grabbed it out of your own cache or not.

I was looking at coins and trackables to purchase. Saw the vehicle travel bug decal. Can these be used as a true trackable, and if so how would you define a location of a "moving cache". The concept is an interesting prospect. For instance. Bug is on my motorcycle as I am touring this year. The bug is registered with Geocaching.com. a cacher spots the decal and records its number, then logs find discribing location of motorcycle when found. If I agree I was in the location discribed allow them the find.

Is this possible?

The Vehicle Travel Bug is not a moving cache, it is a Travel Bug, a game piece in this geocaching game. It is meant to be moved from cache to cache. A Vehicle TB is different in that it doesn't visit caches but goes where you go, to be "discovered" by other cachers. It won't be "grabbed" or "retrieved" by other cachers, so it won't build up mileage. It will just be "discovered" by others, and can help you keep track of some of the cachers you've met along the way.

Edit to add: Moving caches are no longer allowed, and if you find one, it is grandfathered in, and if you find one, and fail its mission to keep it moving, it can be archived, so follow the page instructions on any moving cache, or risk its life!

I see no reason why a vehicle trackable cannot be dropped into an event geocache, if the owner expects to attend

1. alerts other attendees that the bug will be there

2. allows event-to-event mileage to be shown and accumulated

if I am wrong about this, please advise . . .

In a cache I have hidden there is now a geocoin. If it is still there after a while say maybe a month or so, is it okay for me to take it and place it elsewhere even though I didn't place it in the cache.

Thank you.

Anyone can grab a coin to move it along but don't forget to log the grab and maybe even a courtesy note to other cachers going to your cache to get at it that you picked it up.

I don't see why a Travel Bug decal (or shirt for that matter) can't be dipped into caches as well as events.

I have moved geocoins before, but was unsure when it was one in my own hidden cache. I will move it on at some point unless it moves beforehand.

thanks
