+lagrac
I'm going to be visiting Alberta in July to attend the BAD Event, and besides Alberta's two oldest caches, are there any "must do" caches in the Edmonton area? I love Challenge Caches, wherigos, EarthCaches, and Chirps. Thanks for the help!! Quote Link to comment
+hurleyanne
Whenever anyone asks about caching in Edmonton I can't resist gushing about the caches of jbeck2. They are all puzzle caches, but fun to solve (usually pretty tricky) and the containers are great too! There are lots of great ravine parks in Edmonton, so you can do a lot of caching in the city that feels like you're out in the bush. Also, there is a Geocaching Edmonton forum you should look up - they would be better able to tell you the good caches in their area. Maybe see you in July! Quote Link to comment

Just pick a park or a ravine and off you go. There are also the favorite points or this link to a bookmark of Edmonton's favorite caches: http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=c127580c-f678-4741-a440-822bf5e2605f by Canadian Rockies. The Edmontonians love puzzles so take the time now to solve some. Edited March 7, 2011 by mwellman Quote Link to comment
Andronicus
Whenever you are in Alberta, you should try to find a few of the Brass Caps (see http://coord.info/GC43F3 and http://members.shaw.ca/brasscaps/ Quote Link to comment

+Viajero Perdido
You could set up a PQ centered on Edmonton, don't actually run it, click Preview, then click the column heading for Favorites. That'll give you a list of local hides with the most favorite points. Should be a good start. Quote Link to comment

Andronicus
Just remembered another one that was Very Fun Log Into It by Viajero Perdido. That may have been the most fun cache I have done to date. It is kind of like a letterbox, but is listed as a "Unknown Cache". Quote Link to comment

Also, you probably won't have to go as far as Edmonton to get the Brass Cap Cache, just saying... Just remembered another one that was Very Fun Log Into It by Viajero Perdido. That may have been the most fun cache I have done to date. It is kind of like a letterbox, but is listed as a "Unknown Cache". Thanks for the tip J, I'll be up there in a couple of weeks. I also enjoyed the RockWalk tour downtown a couple of years ago. There's two EarthCaches (GC19JJW & GC19JJT), I only got one done but plan to do the other next month. Quote Link to comment

If anybody finds the location inconvenient, I also have five "Walk in the Woods" caches in the lower Mill Creek Ravine, just across the river from downtown, that all follow pretty much the same format. My favorite is the original one. In the same ravine is a Wherigo/puzzle two-fer by Kbrunog (a puzzle master; try anything by him), which might be worth a go. I haven't done it myself since I don't have the hardware, but it sounds like fun. Edited April 20, 2011 by Viajero Perdido Quote Link to comment

My favorite is the original one. Thanks VP, I forgot about that one. As I'll be downtown anyway, I think I'll head there instead (and make it a little less lonely). I'm sure the suggested parking is only a block or two from my sister's first place in Edmonton. I'm sure I've even walked this trail, albeit many years ago.
