+gnbrotz
I am still having trouble getting the forums to "recognize" me. If I go to any part of the GC site first, and then come here, it knows me; but, if I come directly here using this link ---> http://opentopic.Groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic?a=lgn&s=1750973553 it DOES NOT recognize me. If I click on login once or twice, it will then "remember" me without me entering my login info manually. Is there something I need to change in my forum link to make this work? I almost always come here without any other interaction on the GC site first. The way the integration works is that Geocaching.com sends the login info to the forums letting it know that you're logged in. This is why when you come from the Geocaching.com site, you're already logged in. If you go to the forums directly, the forums don't know if you've logged in or not. The login link in the forums does a redirect to Geocaching.com to authenticate you, and once authenticated, Geocaching.com sends the login info to the forums and redirects you back. I believe Infopop designed it this way because they intended for the forums to be more tightly integrated within an existing web site, and access to the forums would only be availble to logged-in users. -Elias Link to comment
+gnbrotz
But isn't there a way I can manipulate the address of my "Favorite list" link to get around this? Greg N 39° 54.705' W 77° 33.137' Link to comment

A little bit of experimentation (sorry for the failures y'all got notified of, Groundspeak guys) shows that you can't get there from here. Copying the URL that the login screen redirects you to leads to an error if you attempt to go to it directly. Even if it did work, though, you'd end up back on the "you're logged in" screen. +naffita
I must have missed something, when I come to the forums from geocaching.com, I still have to click log in. The forum then recognises me. Any tips? Link to comment

The forum then recognises me. Any tips? If you have set a permanent cookie for Geocaching.com using the option when you log in this will likely happen. Every time you visit the Geocaching.com site, the site checks for that cookie, and if it exists, then you're automatically logged in. The forums only know you've logged in when Geocaching.com tells them, and this doesn't happen at the time the Geocaching.com site checks for the cookie and does its auto login. So when you go to the forums after being logged in this way, you have to hit the login button which forces Geocaching.com to send your login info. The forums will then remember your login status for as long as you have an active session, but once you terminate your session or the session expires, you'll have to click login again. -Elias Link to comment

Jeremy and I think we've come up with a way to do this - give it a try: If you have a permanent Geocaching.com cookie set, use this link to go directly to the forums and it will log you in automatically: http://www.geocaching.com/login/forums.asp Please let me know how this works. -Elias Link to comment

When I click that link above I get this http://opentopic.Groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic and I still have to log in again. I have to log in no matter whether I come from the main site or come directly to the forums. This is a minor pain, but still a pain. I just want to stay logged in in the forums! Link to comment

When you log into Geocaching.com, do you check the box that says, "Remember me"? Doing so will set a cookie that this page: http://www.geocaching.com/login/forums.asp checks for, and if the cookie exists, it should automatically log you into the forums. If this isn't happening, let me know and we'll see if we can figure out why. -Elias Link to comment

That is what I would like to do for the forums. I did set the cookie the first time. Link to comment
+gnbrotz
Tonight when I try to go to http://www.geocaching.com/login/forums.asp to come here, it kicks me to the hide/seek page. Is anyone else experiencing this? Greg N 39° 54.705' W 77° 33.137' Link to comment
+Crusso
If I go to Geocaching.com first I am logged in there. If I then go to the forums it says: "Hello Crusso" as soon as I get there, so far so good. However, the first time I try to reply to a post it boots me back to the main Forum Page! Then I have to go back to the post I was reading & repost my response which it accepts. After that everything is fine!?! Link to comment
