+LDB415 Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Haven't seen anything that tells what the r in GPSr stands for. Thanks. Quote
+StarBrand Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 GPS stands for Global Positioning Satellite. The "r" is sometimes added in written enteries to indicate you are reffering to your receiver and not the satellites. However, in casual conversation out loud, nobody refers to thier dedicated handheld as a "GPSr". They just say "my GPS". Quote
+niraD Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Actually, GPS stands for Global Positioning System. And as others have pointed out, GPSr stands for GPS receiver. I suppose we could also refer to GPS satellites as GPSs, but we don't. Quote
+LDB415 Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 Thanks. I had the GPS part fine but wasn't sure what the r was and never thought about receiver. Quote

Unless you're from Germany, in which case you would start a forum flame war every time somebody refers to their device as a "GPS". Quote

I say gyp-ser Reminds me: A local cacher used to make his own signature 'cards' out of 1/8 inch thick pieces of wood. Each had a witticism on the back with "Another Geocaching Moment From" on the front. Andy savored First-To-Find as he jumped into the carSped 40 miles to the site- Whoops... NO GPSR! Quote
+StarBrand Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 .... However, in casual conversation out loud, nobody very few refers to thier dedicated handheld as a "GPSr". They just say "my GPS". -- ok ok - fixed it! Quote
