I'm pretty sure you can just use your credit card through PayPal. I would confirm this for you, but I keep getting PayPal logon requests since it recognizes me. You might want to go through a few of the motions yourself and see how far you can go without a PayPal account.

I just found my first cache, and it also contained a geocoin. icon_biggrin.gif I went to www.usageocoins.com, which said to "Track your coins at Groundspeak.com,. just like Travel Bugs."

Groundspeak.com doesn't have anything related to geocoins on their root page, and the travelbug search doesn't recongnize my coin. icon_confused.gif They have no help or search links for their page either, so I wrote to 'travelbug@geocaching.com' and when that failed, icon_frown.gif I wrote to 'contact@Groundspeak.com'. Both addresses fail with "service unavailable". icon_redface.gif

Are geocoins officially dead?

Unfortunately all of our online credit card orders go through paypal. If you don't wish to pay via paypal you can use the form on the webpage to pay via check also.

USA Geocoins are far from dead. :-)

Geocoins are basically Travelbugs. They work exactly like Travelbugs. Use the coin number as if it was a tag number of a Travelbug.

Thanks for the info, Eric. It seems I have an "unofficial" geocoin. It is 4cm in diameter and made from bronze. The "head" side of the coin has a howling coyote with the text "WAYPOINT 15 www.geocaching.com", the "tail" side is the geocache emblem.

The bug search cannot find "15", and the word "WAYPOINT" is too many characters for it. So I've inherited a mystery. I'll drop it off into another cache and make it someone else's problem to track it.

This may not be a geocoin. This may be like someones personal signature item. Like some people leave business cards, stamps, and other personalized items. You're coin could be one of them. Then again I may be wrong (probably icon_razz.gif )

That is one of the signature coins that are circulating. Check the link below rof Team Fisur's information that has lots of Geocoin pictures and information.

krazykatzen, take a look at the logs of the cache you found, and you'll see that waypoint15 was the first to find it. That's a beautiful geocoin, and I know that there are more than a few geocachers out there who would love to add that signature item to their collection.
