i have a very old version of Mapsource Topo v.3.00, there was a way to install the maps onto the computer without having to install the CD's while the program is running. I know you went into the registry. I remember the tutorial on this site

I don't know about the tutorial, but I remember reading that if you copied the contents of the cd to a directory on your computer and installed from there, you would not be nagged to have the cd in your drive while it ran.

I am playing with the regedit changing the location of the disc drive to the C: drive

You should be able to Google "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Mapsource\" and find a thread that describes the details, likely 4 years old. Happy hunting.
