+genegene
Sorry for posting here but the new forums SUCK and I cant post anything to the website feedback because I cant figure out how to ask questions or post things there. I want to know how I can edit my past forum posts. I have broken links that I want to fix and some typos as well. There is no option to be able to do an edit and that is something that needs to be there. I know it used to be but where did it go? Quote Link to comment

You only have limited amount of time to do an edit on forum posts - was that way with the old software as well. While you can, an edit button should appear under your posts. Quote Link to comment
+genegene
Why is there a limited time? Quote Link to comment
+StarBrand
So some sorts of people don't try and change a whole thread via creative editing of posts well past the fact. Quote Link to comment
+mpilchfamily
Its not really a pre set time. You have until someone else posts after you to edit. Thats just the way the forum software works. It can be changed but requires additional coding. The forum software being used right now is fairly standard. If you really want to fix a link or whatnot try reporting the individual posts and let the moderators know what needs to be fixed. If enough of that kind of thing is requested i'm sure a good case will be made to modify the code to allow editing anytime. The big problem with the editing on the fly is it fragments the database. And thats all a forum is is a database. Lots of editing can clutter the database and slows it down. Quote Link to comment
+The Blorenges
As far as I know, there's always been a time limit for editing your past posts. I've just checked back over my most recent ones and it appears that you have up to 24hours to do an edit. It's late afternoon here - when I look at posts I did yesterday morning there's no edit button displayed. MrsB Quote Link to comment

Keystone
The time period for editing is 24 hours and the reasoning is correctly given by Starbrand. (Thanks for your helpful replies!) Updates to active forum threads can be requested of the moderator(s) for that forum section. Example: the Geocoin Forum Moderators are happy to update a thread's title as a coin goes through the various development stages. Quote Link to comment
+genegene
I need to fix broken links that are affecting the Western Mass Geocachers website. I know where they are and in order for them to get fixed I need to update links that show up here on the forums. Sorry if I came off very rude, but I really don't like the new set up here on the forums and have been avoiding them as much as possible. I know that there is not much I can do about it. Even changing the button on the bottom makes it no easier. I just wish that they would put a forum topic back here for questions that can be answered quickly like this one was. Thank you everyone, Gene G. Quote Link to comment
