+aintnorock
I've been geocaching for a few years, and my unit just died, so I'm the market for a new one and I'm thinking about the Oregon 450. So it's paperless. What the heck does that mean? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
TheCacheSeeker
paperless means that you can load the cache descriptions (in a GPX format availible only for premium members) into your GPS from the computer using programs such as GSAK. Hope this helps. Quote Link to comment
+Touchstone
I'll add that with the Garmin Oregon, you won't even need an extra tool like GSAK to achieve paperlessness. You just drag the unzipped GPX file into one of the Folders on the Oregon, after you attach the unit to your computer with the USB accessory cord that comes with the unit. Voila' Full Descriptions, Hint and the last five Log Entries are on the unit to fulfill your every whim....well maybe not quite Good luck! Quote Link to comment
+WhoDis
As was said, paperless means you have all the hints, description, and last 5 logs right on you GPSr. Just drag the unzipped GPX file on to you GPS. There's a folder inside the Garmin folder labeled GPX, put them there. Or as someone said, if you have GSAK, you can use it to do it. I'll also add, the 450 does Where I GO, if your interested in trying that out. I haven't done it yet, put there a little tutorial on the unit to show you how it's done. Sounds fun. +niraD
Paperless caching can also include marking caches as found on your device, then uploading field notes to the geocaching.com site. Later, you can use the field notes to post online logs. Quote Link to comment
+aintnorock
Thanks everyone for the replies. I understand now. I think I'm sold on the Oregon - I always get lost with all that paperwork I print out. Quote Link to comment
