+CCHACW Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Hello, I will be travelling to Asia (China, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam) later this year and want to know that if my Garmin Dakota 20 will work ? I've downloaded the cache info ...but what about maps ? I'm real new to this so any advice you can offer is much appreciated. Thanks Quote
+CCHACW Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 Hi again. Guess I should read the manual a little better first before I post. I just read that it contains a worldwide base map so all is good. Thanks Quote
+webscouter. Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 The Dakota will work over there but may require a long time for the first acquisition. Be prepared to let it sit, mine took almost 10 minutes when I got to Japan. The base map is VERY basic, almost useless. You can get pretty good free maps at http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php I used these maps in Japan and Korea and they were pretty good. Let me know if you need help getting maps from this site. +alfonso-lanka Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 Hi again. Guess I should read the manual a little better first before I post. I just read that it contains a worldwide base map so all is good. Thanks Forget about the worldwide base map. It's utterly useless, even more so in 'exotic' countries. The best maps that I have found for Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are from rotweiler: http://rotweilermaps.com/ Most of these are not only detailed, but recently updated as well, and with a LOT of POIs. I just love them. Quote
