Pro Pricing for Military

For you military and S&R types that like to hike and backpack, many outdoor gear manufacturers offer “pro pricing” which can be a pretty big discount. There are some limitations, like not disclosing the prices, and they will want to verify that you are what you say you are, but once you’re in, it’s worth it. I'm in with North Face, Mountain Hardware, Cascade Designs (MSR etc), Marmot, and Outdoor Research.

Just go to their website and search around for Pro Deal or something along those lines. The registering process is pretty painless, most are happy with just your .mil email address for credentials. There are some really great deals and ordering is easy and smooth. My snowshoes arrived in about three days.

Oakley Sunglasses gives great deals for Military and Government Employees. www.usstandardissue.com

I used www.usstandardissue.com to get prescription ballistic sunglasses when I was deployed, and I'm planning to use them again to get normal prescription Oakley sunglasses now that I'm back ('cause lets face it, when we wear our "deployment goggles" in public, we're cool for about 20 minutes, then after that, we just look like dorks).

I also plan to look into the North Face deal - every winter, I end up leaving a couple pairs of my black North Face Windstopper gloves behind at caches, ski lodges, gas pumps, ATMs, etc., so it would behoove me if I can buy them in bulk with a military discount.

Another way in is if you're in the outdoor industry in some way. I got in with Smartwool and Thule when I worked outdoor retail. I worked at a YMCA that had a climbing wall and I helped the manager get set up with Petzl for climbing gear (I was entitled to get myself in, but since I don't personally climb, it wasn't worth it for me).

i got a really great deal on mountain hardware, grabbed a tent, footprint, 20 degree sleeping bag, and some nice convertible hiking pants, roughly 300 bucks with shipping, normal price about double that, and doing a google search for same items, the pro account was definitely cheapest route, thanks for this thread.

wanted to add about north face, great deals, but everything i wanted was out of stock...100% of tents, i looked at ALL of them lol

I think it was the end of the season, so everything was out of stock. I'm noticing that most of the gear companies have restocked and have new items in now.

No discounts From Mountain Hardwear for Retired Military.

No, like I mentioned, you need an email address that ends in .mil for most of them.

Anyway, these are the links for the ones I'm in right now:
