I read it before it was changed and Yes i would of approved it and no i didnt find it offensive at all. I found it funny though!

Im suprised that you found the cache page offensive by being "suggestive" and yet you still posted this picture on one of your logs kind of a hypocritical a bit if ya ask me. :D:D:laughing:

Life's about choices. They're your kids, and no one else's. You can control what they can and can't be exposed to while you take them caching. For bigger kids, it's a little harder to keep them from being exposed to sexually mature topics (or caches), and you have to trust that you gave them the right morals and good judgement to make good choices.

More upsetting than the whole "this is vulgar, delete it now" theory is the fact that someone out there feels offended for me, rather than letting me be an adult (or a parent, in some cases) and choose for myself how to view sex in my family.

Take some responsibility for your own actions, and remember to stay in your lane and out of other people's business. If it's not illegal, or risking other people's lives, it takes too much effort to be THAT concerned about it.

I personally would like to make it easier for kids that want to be self controlled by being at least one person that is trying to portray sex in a positive light for married couples who are more capable of dealing with children and a situation less likely to involve STD's.

So what happens if I don't get married?... just had to ask.

I 100% agree with you about parenting. I have a 12 and 17 y/o. However as well intended as you seem to be, it appears you're a little off topic. It's about expectations in this case. i.e. I take my 12 y/o daughter to a G movie and it has sex in it. I think you would agree this situation would be bad. The same way if the expectations this website and the caches are family friendly (rated G) and some turn out not to be rated G. Now if this website said "Use at your own risk" then I'd know what to expect.

If you live in the OP's world, you will be a harlot who will rot and burn in the flames of Hades but not before you and all of your children commit heinous crimes and become infected by numerous STD's while hunting for caches with inappropriate descriptions and/or locations. GreySurprized.gif

In the real world, you would be considered a modern woman and your children will grow up with healthy attitudes regarding respect, tolerance and relationships.

Boy a lot of you just don't see it do you. It is not really the litle children that may see it that are the problem. Of course a little child would not get it and if they did it would be the fault of someone else. But at an age where hormones are running and little self control to offset seeing caches set up to commemorate such an act is definitely not helping the self control side win. Now some of you might think it is ok at that age but if they end up with an std or a child at such an early age it would be a problem. A lackadaisical attitude about the deed breeds a lackadaisical attitude about the deed.

Encouraging kids by a lack of care is reckless and irresponsible. Parents who smoke have kids who smoke, parents who do drugs have kids who do drugs. It's not a given but it is highly likely. Same goes for a lackadaisical attitude about the deed.

Anyway that is my rant and all I say is whether or not you think it is wrong or not in high school I think we can all agree that it is a slippery slope that could lead to a lot of misery for high school kids if the attitude is so flippant.

Wow. A simple cache page is the bane of society, now. I would bet a kid would be exposed to more inapproprate sexual content from 10 other outlets before ever seeing in in a cache page.

Yeah. A quick look at your avatar should be probably first on the list.

By the way that is not meant as criticism. :D

Oh, dreamarcher, I completely agree about "family friendliness" with caching. I just wanna state that for the record. I think people that leave condoms or porn or adult related material in caches as some kind of joke are *feminine hygiene product*-bags. It's completely inappropriate and cruel to parents who have to have that lingering, awkward discussion with their little ones on the walk back to the car.

On the other hand, when I am selecting a cache to go find, I have the right to choose which caches to go looking for. Kind of like that cache in the parking lot of a adult bookstore: you see it as you're cruising closer to ground zero, you point out the donut shop across the street to your wee cachers, and quickly turn the car around. You made a choice that was in the good interest of your kids. That's called parenting. Parents rock!

I think it's awesome that families go out together and that you can usually expect (with some exceptions, of course) that you'll have a safe experience. Families that have hobbies like this, that get passed on to their kids, tend to have pretty good moral fiber. I applaud that. When you have a teenager who's out roaming the woods or enjoying the outdoors with a GPSr and hiking boots, it's a reasonable assumption that they have a good set of values and realize that a cache description implying sex doesn't mean that it's a green light to behave like a Buffy the Vampire Slayer character and boink like there's no tomorrow.

Me as a single cacher with no kids? I can choose to be offended for myself, like I can choose to go find a specific "vulgar" cache or not.

Bottom line. If you think a cache page might have crossed some line, then bring it to the local reviewer's attention. Maybe it did. Let the reviewer make the call and then let it go.

All of that happened - and it got changed for the better! Case closed!

Yeah that happened, in addition to you starting this thread and posting a note to the cache page.

It would be nice if folks focused on themselves, their activities and morals rather than looking outward at other people's.

I'm very big on minding my own business and letting others live how they want.

Leave me alone! :D

And likewise. If for example I had a 13 yo son I would like to not be looking over his back every 5 seconds. At 13 it is nice to be given a little liberties but when you turn your kid loose on a site with the expectation of family friendly that is when it becomes a problem.

If this site wants to tolerate those types of caches then that is their rite, but don't bill it as a family friendly site. I would like to feel as though this place is a haven from the trials the child will face elsewhere.

I know I can not shelter a kid from everything but it sure would be nice to be supported by responsible adults in a family friendly activity.

So I agree leave me alone and my children alone, man up (or woman) and be responsible and keep it family friendly. To me there are already enough inappropriate jokes out there it would be nice if they did not invade every aspect of my and my childrens lives.

We who are against un-family friendly listings are not telling you how to live we are asking you to not invade this space with your decisions.

I don't want everything child proofed. Parents should monitor their kids if they feel they need to. Or trust the kid, I don't know. I don't have children and I get tired of things being sugar coated for them. It's the parents responsibility, not mine.

You chose to have your son and it's not my chore to decide what's right for him. It's yours. If you have to look over his shoulder at what he is doing, that's your job. Not mine to comply with your standards.

Caching is family friendly but it's still the parents that decide what they will allow their kids to view.

If you, as the adult, find a cache listing offensive you have the option of adding it to your ignore list. Tell your kids to do the same.

I find certain things offensive too. Do you eat meat? I find that disgusting and offensive. But I don't go about trying to police anyone's choice to eat meat. I just became vegan.

If a cache had an animal skull in it, I'd put that on my ignore list. I wouldn't make the CO change his cache.

There is a lot of talk about “family-friendly”. Define “family-friendly”. Specifically, whose family are you referring to? A right-wing conservative family from the deep south? A left-wing liberal family from the Pacific Northwest? A European family? An Asian family? A Muslim family? The lowest common denominator? GreyPucker.gif

That is the problem with trying to impose one’s morality on others who do not share your beliefs. Does your moral code trump those who share a different set of moral codes? Apparently, from what you have written, they do! You say (as though you are speaking for many) that you are not telling us how to live yet, in the same sentence, tell us not to invade this space with OUR decisions, as if those decisions have less importance than yours. Are you referring to the cache page in question prior to its being edited, or are you now just speaking in generalities? I ask because I can hardly imagine anyone calling that cache page "vulgar".

Seriously? If that page is "vulgar," what does that make Maxim magazine (or Cosmo, for that matter)? Both of which are readily visible at grocery store checkouts by little kids, by the way.

I'd say that the ACTIVITY of geocaching is pretty much "family friendly" for people who want to include their kids in their hobby (by the loose definition of "okay for kids to see") but the web forums don't have to be.

If you worry about what they might see online, don't let them cruise the online forum by themselves.

Neither morality trumps. They'll all equally important TO THE PERSON who holds them.

That's the point. Take responsibility for your own life, actions and choices and be happy.

Well if words have no meaning then this argument is moot. That depends on what the definition of the word "is" is.

The original poster thought, and I agree, that the listing was inappropriate. They took action and had it changed. The only argument I see with this is that they should have tried privately first.

I am expecting someone not to complain about an individual trying to make sure this place stays family friendly for the masses. They could have done it privately first that is my only beef.

And it is not to fit my moral code it is to fit the family friendly code.

It was the OPs right to take action. I don't think they should have taken any actions.

I disagree that the cache should be edited because someone found it offensive. Discussion is good, being forced to comply with others morals isn't good.

What if I find a cache listing of yours with any hunting reference? How about a Burger King LPC?

Should those be archived because I disagree with hunting and eating burgers?

I give the man mad props. I wish I had that kind of bravery to cache au natural. Aside from the fact that the man probably has a small fortune invested in bug spray and sunblock, he seems very pleased with self-image and happy with in his own skin. Something more teenagers should learn, especially in today's physical-perfection-centric environment.

Side note. Love the nude cacher. Wonder how he does it sometimes. I can't imagine going through some of the stuff I went through without anything covering me.

But then I think I spent my summer changing clothes completely in parking lots after caching.

That gives me an idea for a couple of new caches at Wreck Beach (Google it). I just checked and there is room for at least 2 or 3 caches there. As for family-friendly, whenever I've been down there I've seen numerous families, with their young kids, spending the day there. GreySmirk.gif

I see how your logic works. It basically says its all or nothing. In your eyes there is no such thing as family friendly. You say I can say whatever I want as long as it doesn't offend you we are ok. I say family friendly is fairly understood by the masses and just because a few want to push the envelop doesn't mean that it has changed. Sex, drugs, alchohol, and the 7 words as per the FCC is accepted as not family friendly to anyone I know that has kids. Maybe you believe otherwise but I doubt the majority of people with kids believe as you do.
