Vulgar cache got approved

Sex isn't vulgar. I don't find the cache page inappropriate In any case it's up to the parents to decide what the kids read. Keep them off that cache page if you find it vulgar.

Little kids won't even get the reference. Older kids may, and so what? I guess no harm if they already know!

I like caches with a personal meaning behind them!

Since I use "doing the deed" to describe any number of activities I do through out the day I wouldn't expect any children around me to see that title and think anything obscene about it. And realistically any child that reads the description would be hard pressed to identify anything obscene from that.

There is no explicit description of sex in that cache page. As a wink and nod adult to adult joke it's amusing to me. And completely over a child's head. I hardly see it as a celebration either. Someone had sex and made a silly little joke out of it. It's not liek they're sending up flares or posting a movie of what happened on the website. Or sending people to a container full of pictures of what happened in the parking spot.

I'm not a reviewer but I would bet I would have published the cache.

You know I asked a question around halloween about placing a cache about a myth about a family that was murdered and hung from meat hooks. I figured I would get the "this is a family game" comments.

I got quite the opposite and was introduced to plenty of caches that revolved around murders and people getting their heads cut off. This thread kinda makes me laugh after I read some of those cache pages.

Nothing on that page actually mentions what the deed is. Its just implied.

I think you are being a bit uptight.

I totally appreciated that thread. Found a cache to do on my next vacation.

Anyhow, there are historic caches the commemorate sites of death or burial areas all over the place. If a cache that gives a vague (and it is vague) reference to sex is vulgar those other caches certainly would be vulgar to in my eyes (if not more vulgar).

Not to mention all the caches in places now where people actively have sex that you risk walking in on.

I approve much less of using the cache page as a forum to air your grievances. Either contact a reviewer or don't, but leave the cache page alone.

reviewer has been contacted - we will see what is said - I really want to know what the limits are in Geo-caching

This is a adult theme and we are not allowed adult material in the caches, along with weapons, drugs or knives. IN keeping with that we do have our limits on what should be done and this one is way over the limit.

Yeah bad form to post to a cache page like that.

Would you have approved it! this is a family oriented game and I don't see a place for to celebrate what one did in this case as appropriate for a cache! Would you have approved it.

Again I am asking - if you were an approver/reviewer etc would you have approved this cache!

Vulgar and inappropriate? Definitely. But, unfortunately, that's the way Geocaching is heading. Sad. I found that out with the cache outside the porn shop. "Slow Poke". "Adults will understand the title when they see the location." Puerile humor. Nope. No guidelines violation. Sad to say. Oh, well.

How's this for 'inappropriate'? Members Only Cache

I think it's the fora that are 'family friendly', not the caches. (So stop talking about sex!)

This cache just got published - I for one think it is very suggestive of a place where the owner had sex in high school. Do you agree or not and should it have been approved!

I would agree that it is very inappropriate for Geocaching, and I sent a little note to the reviewer, in case they probably did not read the description, asking if they would reconsider publishing it, and request the CO to change the description.

It would definately be an uncomfortable situtation for a family with young children, to discover it!

Just my 2cents

Here is a cache that I don't particularly care for either! GC201H4 It's on the inappropriate side also!

Here is a part of a log GPS Hermit wrote for Fisherman's Cache:

Co-ordinates were "Dead on Balls Accurate"

I guess family friendly doesn't apply to his logs.

That is an engineering term involving ball bearing causing measurements to be perfectly accurate!

"my cousin vinny" not a vulger term!

I think some people try too hard to be offended... GreySurprized.gif

If you can be offended by that then you must be apoplectic by what you see on the Disney Channel! GreyLaughingAnim.gif

OMG, nothing could be closer to the truth. I say to the OP, get a grip.

Actually, according to several sources on the Internet, the expression DOBA became part of popular vernacular after first appearing in the movie, "My Cousin Vinny". Prior to that it was not an engineering term referring to accuracy of ball bearing measurements. But it got a lot of laughs in the movie!

Nice try, though! GreyWink.gif

Suggestive - yes

Vulgar - a bit (using the definition of "vulgar" as marked by lack of taste, culture, delicacy, manners, etc. )

However, there's nothing on that page that would be questionable for an innocent child to read.

(I'm more offended by the fact that the cache owner has been through high school and can't spell magical correctly :D )

Yes, I'd publish it... reluctantly... with a sigh.

I don't see anything in either the cache title or in the description that says the cache owner had sex in high school at this place. I supposed you could imagine that's what it means. But puritans do have a reputation for claiming a simple sentence says something beyond what is actually written. :D

Vulgar? Na. Offensive? Na. Maybe a "bit" risque, but nothing to get into a hand-wringing episode about. But as always, just my own 2¢, for whatever you can buy with that these days.

-- edit... looks like the CO already caved and changed the title and description. Whatever. :D

I tend to think a badge of honor celebrating a deed of that nature is not vulgar but very low brow. Seems like a chick that would brag about how many notches she had on a bed post.

In the edit she seems to imply that she married the guy and he is a pastor. Well I do not personally know any pastors that would set up a memorial to misspent youth.

I understand not hiding from what happened but also think it is not something to brag about, especially since children of impressionable ages peruse this site.

Again I am asking - if you were an approver/reviewer etc would you have approved this cache!

Of course I would have published it. Reviewers don't get to approve caches, they just publish them if they follow the guidelines. They can only refuse to publish if the guidelines are not followed.

As I can see nothing even remotely offensive in the cache page, I'm guessing that Groundspeak has used here the "if there is a complaint it is offensive and must therefore be edited" philosphy. It may makes sense in the client service business, but it sometimes means that something that is ok with 99.9% of people and not ok for 0.1% of people has to be changed.

Having seen the other caches brought up as "objectionable", I'd say some people here are a little too easily offended. Some jokes may be childish, but that is a far cry from saying that it means the cache will traumatize kids who may find it. As others have said, either they won't understand the joke or it won't bother them... unless their parents overreact, in which case the parents reaction may cause some negative effect. OK, I realise this cache is in the US, where some people are willing to argue in court that the sight of a breast on TV can traumatize youg children. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised to see that a few american cachers are very easy to offend (I said a few... not generalizing here).

And for those saying that such jokes are a modern scourge and screaming "oh, look where this world is going, doom, doom doom!", I'd suggest you better not research a 1982 song from April Wine or think about how many times a pussy was mentioned on "Are you being Served", a series now several decades old.

Actually, I'm now thinking about making a cache about my cat and calling it "Cute Pussy".

Would that be vulgar and inappropriate for families to seek? :D
