jmoreira Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Hello, i'm new with this technology, and i've some questions: Can i use my Blackberry Bold 9700 GPS in offline mode to geocache? I've got many areas without signal deep forests for example), so GPS don't work. If there is that chance, what software should i use and what are the best maps to put in my SD card? Many thanks for all users! Quote
+SeekerOfTheWay Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 The GPS on the BlackBerry just isn't as good as a handheld unit. That's been my experience. As far as using a GPS app with the BlackBerry data connection turned off: I have used BlackStar which is a great free app. You can create Pocket Queries on geocaching.com (PMs only), the attachment comes as an email to your BlackBerry, download the file onto your BlackBerry and then import it into BlackStar. It gives you waypoint details, hints etc. Works great. You can also show all caches on BlackBerry Maps. You can show one cache at a time on Google Maps. With both options you can get turn by turn directions right to the cache. The ability to load PQ and Routes onto BlackStar makes it worthwhile. +northernpenguin Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 The GPS on the BlackBerry just isn't as good as a handheld unit. That's been my experience. Depends on the Blackberry. I had a Tour 9630 and the GPS wasn't good at all on it. Nowadays I have a Blackberry Bold 9700, running OS 6 and I have no GPS complaints on that device. Quote
jmoreira Posted December 4, 2010 Author Posted December 4, 2010 But in this cases i must have a connection to get the maps? What i want to know is, if i put some maps im memory card, and some software (i would like to know if there is one that works on BB) i can use my blackberry just like any GPS, a garmin for example. Many thanks Quote
