Corp Of Discovery
So I took a little road trip a couple of weeks ago with a caching buddy of mine (CoyoteTrust). We visited 12 states, traveled 3100 miles, found 40 caches, ate some good BBQ (among other things), saw some interesting sites and did it all in under 100 hours. I thought I'd share some of our pictures, enjoy. Day 1: Smokey D's. First food stop of the trip and some pretty darn good BBQ. Trying to get up in the world. Ice Cream Rock? BTTF car. Just before reaching 88MPH... Big Art Attack! Cool structure in Omaha. The Pony Express stables. House where Jesse James was killed. Arthur Bryant's BBQ. Famous Kansas City BBQ joint. Too peppery for my taste tho. Quote Link to comment

Har_D
Looks like an awesome trip. I recognized your pics from the Kansas City area (my stomping grounds). It is ok if you don't care for Arthur Bryant's 'cause that leaves more for me! I've seen the BTTF car several times. That guy lives in the Shawnee-Mission area near me and gives people quite a shock when they see it on the highway. Lastly, thanks for the pic of the howizter that overlooks I-70 at Ft. Riley, KS. I proudly served there. I'm glad you had fun! Quote Link to comment
Corp Of Discovery
Gotta say, I admire your taste in food! A couple of other places we ate at were McClard's BBQ in Hot Springs and The Smokehouse in Linsay, Texas. Both were very good. I usually don't like BBQ beef (pork is my preference) but that's all the latter had. I was pleasantly surprised- not only was the beef nicely done but the homemade sausage was too. The sauce was tasty- seemed to have a bit of a chili taste to it. if that's a little jaunt I'd love to see you go on a big one thanks for sharing your photos, looks like a great adventure! I'd love to do something like that. In my first year of caching we went on a family vacation that covered most of the eastern part of the US. We were on the road almost a month and traveled over 5000 miles. This trip was planned as a counterpart to that one due to the special occasion. The character just below has done a pretty extreme road trip too- more than 8,600 miles just to log an event. Dang Paul, I wish I could have tagged along. Looks like you guys had a blast. I'm bettin' you had a real adventure. Well, I was quite jealous that you, and a couple of other friends of mine, were able to drive to GW8 and I wasn't. This kinda made up for it. Looks like an awesome trip. I recognized your pics from the Kansas City area (my stomping grounds). It is ok if you don't care for Arthur Bryant's 'cause that leaves more for me! Lastly, thanks for the pic of the howizter that overlooks I-70 at Ft. Riley, KS. I proudly served there. I'm glad you had fun! Arthur Bryant's was really good, just not quite my cup of tea. Their french fries were great. Next time thru I hope to try a few other places. Thanks for the info on the car- it certainly was a cool surprise while tooling along down the highway. Lastly for me- thanks for your service! Quote Link to comment

Coldgears
I'd love to do something like this. But I can't find a list of places I want to visit along a route. Quote Link to comment

Chokecherry
Last summer we geocached across a few states on our trek to a destination. I was SURE there would be absolutely nothing interesting to look at in North Dakota but changed my mind after doing some caches there (same with the majority of Montana). I'm glad I took the chance and went to look at caches in areas I had little interest in in the first place. I got to have a lot of fun doing so. That being said next summer I'm planning a full multi-state road trip which is going to include lots of rural communities and hand picked geocaches. Some might be interesting some maybe not so much but it's always an adventure and I get to see places off the beaten path that I would never have thought of visiting in the first place. Seeing this thread got me all excited for that trip next summer. Quote Link to comment
wimseyguy
Like Jealous Glad you had an awesome adventure. I'm missing a big swath of states along the Mississippi and the heartland. I have drawn up a few routes, but not given it much more thought than that. You inspire me to give it that thought, and find places and caches worthy of posting to the route, and getting me off the interstate. BTW there is one category at that other site I care about. Some wackdoodle created a Waymarking category for classic BBQ joints. Quote Link to comment
Sagefox
Wow! The Cozy Inn in Salina, Kansas??? My wife was born in Salina and whenever we used to visit the relatives (three times to be exact) we had to stop by the Cozy Inn and eat several of those tiny hamburgers they are famous for. In fact, in 2008, for a family birthday gathering in Snohomish, Washington, we ordered 75 tiny Cozy Inn hamburgers and had them next-day-aired to us. They were delicious. Quote Link to comment
