tedwin Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I've just read the article and although it's apparently from a reputable source, it's almost like a tabloid headline. No figures, how big was the sample, was there a control group etc. Quote

Trucker Lee Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I feel there may be some credence to this study, as I am convinced that some in the administration offices of my employer require use of technology to find their way to the little room down the hall. Quote

lifechooser Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I've had a quick look, and from what I can work out, Geocaching is good for you*. By GPS, the report means satnav. In other words, people who simply follow the satnav, and don't use the spacial awareness part of their brains, don't exercise it enough and lose that ability. Geocachers will use a lot of their spacial brain to find the caches, and generally navigate without simple "turn left now" instructions. *it's exercise innit. Must be good .. apart from my dog bite obviously. ... and sprained ankle. Quote
The Other Stu Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 That, I would agree with. The Tiger will tell you that I'm pretty good at self-navigation - take me somewhere twice and I'll never need maps or sat-nav to get me around. Problem is, if you've been using Sat-Nav, there's a huge danger that you don't actually become aware of your surroundings and you don't learn. Quote
keehotee Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 *it's exercise innit. Must be good Remove seatbelt. Open door. Jump out. Walk 5 metres to hedge. Retrieve film pot. Sign log. Replace film pot. Return to car. Repeat 1200 times - or until bored..................... Quote
