+jundtie797
Hello, I have been looking for some poles to take with me and while I was at Cabela's in St. Louis today, and I found Trekker Hiking Staffs marked down from 29.99 to 7.99. Their website shows them listed at a sale price of 14.99. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Trekker-Hik...amp;Ntt=trekker Does anyone have anything to share about these poles, since they were priced so low, I bought 4. +EScout
They look like a very good value and got good reviews. Good features like carbide tip, shock absorb on or off. I would want to try the grip. I prefer a hard foam type. The wrist strap for Trekking poles is very important. Worn properly, your weight is on the strap and you lightly grip with your fingers (hand up through, strap on outside of wrist. So I like a wide strap with no buckle. Quote Link to comment
Connfederate
Hey Now, jundtie797! I think those poles will do just fine for you. FWIW, I picked up a set of Ocean State Job Lot specials a few years ago and I've used them backpacking the CT section of the A-T w/ no problems. I think I paid $10 bucks for the set; they're as cheap as they come but they work for me...YMMV. Quote Link to comment
+worstcaster
Sticks are free. Quote Link to comment
+BlueDeuce
I would want to try the grip. I prefer a hard foam type. Same thought as well. It's one thing to hold it while standing but on the trail there's a whole lift/swing part of walking with a stick that a hard grip might not be the best choice. Quote Link to comment
ATMouse
The website shows $9.99 this morning. Quote Link to comment
+mpilchfamily
Sticks are free. <img src="http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> And they are customizable. I like to have a good length of para cord wrapped around my to help make the handle. Pluss the cord can come in handy at times on the trail. +currykev
A true story! Yesterday, I was searching for my trusty pole, as the ice outside had not quite melted. I had no luck. But what I did find was an old Paint Roller Extension Pole. Just the job. Quote Link to comment
+dirt_empire
Best walking stick/hiking pole ever found was made out of a branch in Arkansas. Carved, treated, and done up to perfection. Had it for quite some time and has yet to fail me. Sticks are free, as many have said before, and you can make them to your specifications. Find a good branch and give it to someone who can work wood well. Quote Link to comment
