Found a Corp of Engineers Benchmark

I found a Corp of Engineers Benchmark on my property and I like to add it to the other Benchmark data.

 

I've looked on the list (NGS at geocaching.com) for my area and could not find anything around my block.

 

So can I add it to the NGS list? If so where?

 

What to do with this Benchmark?

 

I do have 3 photos of to benchmark to add with the data.

 

Also Im very new to this. So keep your answers simple as you can please.

Nope. NGS does not take user submissions for new benchmarks.

 

What to do with this Benchmark?

 

There's not much you can do other than enjoy the fact that you found a new mark. If it's not in the NGS database, you can't record it at geocaching.com or make an NGS report. You can, however, add it to Waymarking.com.

I'm sorry, but as far as I know and like apollosmith wrote, you can't create a new station in NGS database. If it is not listed in the NGS database you can't report it either to the NGS nor log it on geocaching.com.

 

A good idea would be to waymark the mark on Waymarking.com in the benchmark category. But if it is on your private property I'm not sure if you like to see people visiting the site. But that's up to you.

You can check with your state as well.

 

Here in mass, the highway Dpt. has a very large list of marks that can be logged with them. I set up an account but have not logged one yet.

I just had the same thing happen on my trip up to the Smoky Mountain's. I did a Virtual and was walking between historic buildings and stumbled on a benchmark atop a rock. Not in the database. I am going to create a waymark when I get home.
