Who thinks a cache in the parking lot of a Krispy Kreme store is appropriate ?

I think that it is a bit tacky.

With the soaring rate of heart disease and childhood obesity, isn't it obscene to attract people to cache at donut shops? Makes adult book stores seem tame by comparison...

I've been on a diet for three weeks. I'd face much stronger temptations at the krispy Kreme store than I would at the adult bookstore!

I hate sweets. I don't like candy. I find Krispe Kremes to be among the sweetest of doughnuts.

Disgusting.

So, to me, a cache there is perfectly fine. Now, one placed in front of a discount liquor store.......

AHHH a Canadian (socialist country) left of center (from his profile) trying to enact the nanny government down here. Fortunately we have Republicans.

I'm only passingly familiar with American politics. Are Republicans unable to understand satire?

No we understand it and respond in kind, but it gets misinterpreted.

Ah yes, improving health is a "nanny state" measure, but keeping people out of adult store parking lots is "family values."

to some, yes. But this is in danger of getting too political. I'm also trying to avoid going to far in that direction in another thread. Off to bed for me.

Leaving Krispy Kreme the other morning after jbex, I was followed by a cop for several miles. I just KNEW I was going to get pulled over, even though I hadn't done anything. It was 2AM on a Saturday morning, and the bars were hopping.

All I could think of was me rolling down the window and saying "Would you like a doughnut , officer?"

Does this mean (see sig line) I can dislike Windsor and Sarnia because they're socialist? ;)

Um, they closed all the Krispy Kreme's in my area. And put me down for the cache in any store parking lot being obscene. :D

I forgot how our neighbours to the south equate social services. Social services = socialism = communism = evil. :D:D:D

Consider this:

  • Unemployment insurance = socialist
  • Welfare = socialist
  • Public education = socialist
  • Public transportation = socialist
  • Public libraries = socialist
  • Social Insurance = socialist
  • the list goes on....

Of course, none of those things make a country socialist, unless Public Health Care is added to the list. I guess it doesn't help when Canada is always depicted as pink in atlases. ;):D:P

You guys crack me up!

It is once again safe to place a geocache in a Canadian KFC parking lot. The Double Down was removed from menus yesterday and Canada is now, according to KFC's own press release, a "Double Down free zone." Hooray for the nanny state.

I would be lost if Dictator Harper wasn't guiding me.

Please remember that the Groundspeak forums are Family Friendly and post accordingly.

Posting about used condoms (and their contents) and such is not in keeping with that.

Which is exactly why placing a cache in the parking lot of an adult bookstore is not a good idea.

Um, people can run across that sort of item in a forest, in an alleyway, in a park, or any other slightly isolated spot. The places that are good hiding places for geocaches are good hiding places for other objects and activities as well.

It is the geocacher's responsibility to be aware of his/her surroundings. If you don't like the look of a place, don't get out of the car.

Besides that, I can't imagine what you're doing with this sort of litter that you think you're going to catch a disease from it. That sort of pathogen doesn't live long outside of a human body. It would need to be pretty fresh, and you'd need to be doing something pretty questionable with it in order to contract a disease.

A lot of Adult stores are known to have illicit sexual activity going on both inside and outside of the establishments.

Where you have illicit sexual activity going on you will also more than likely have illicit drug use going on including used syringes.

So the likelihood of finding or accidently coming in contact with those substances is far greater in a parking lot of an Adult store.

I would debate that. I've cached in many parks that turned out to be 'pickle parks' and have seen many more things that are unmentionable (on this site) in public parks than I have in parking lots.

I find it strange that people who are offended by adult-oriented business, and would never frequent one (or at least admit to it), seem to know so much about what goes on in and around them. ;)

I'm also puzzled how one makes the connection that being sexually active makes someone a drug user. Have we been lied to all this time? Is sex really the gateway to hard drugs and not maryjane? I'm so confused now... :D

Do you have a study or some other kind of evidence backing up your claim? So-called "adult" stores are actually pretty mainstream these days, and many of them strive to create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment inside and outside the store. Having paying customers scared off by skeeze just isn't good for business.

It's a big world out there, full of people who are going to do things you don't approve of. They might do it in a parking lot, or they might do it in the local park, or they might do it at home. It's not up to a geocache owner to sanitize the world to avoid offending your delicate sensibilities. You need to exercise your own judgment and avoid places that you don't like.

Quite frankly, I find the tone of your comments much more frightening than the many syringes I've encountered in alleys and parks since I became a geocacher. I can report a syringe to the health unit and get it cleaned up. Insidious bigotry is much harder to eradicate.

One of our local "adult" stores has a private sex club upstairs, but I've never seen anything even remotely skeezy or scary *outside* of the store. They are very, very careful not break the law, because the store and the club are their livelihood. The reason they do such brisk business is because they have a reputation for being safe and not at all creepy.

Serious creeps don't make a great customer base. The store's bread and butter is middle-class female customers with lethargic husbands and lots of disposable income.

Maybe this thread should get moved to the "OFF TOPIC" forum, because it is getting to be less and less about geocaching

The thread is about caches placed in areas that some people feel are inappropriate because they are offended by some activity or business nearby, why they are offended and why others who are not offended should be offended. Seems to be on-topic and on-track, to me... ;)

Really? I see it as a spin off from a thread that got locked.

I have not seen any Krispy Kreme caches cited.

Worm Hole Alert! Worm Hole Alert! A thread about caches in the Krispy Kreme Parking lot morphed into a thread about adult bookstores with a private sex club upstairs. Can we move this to OT, close it or get back on topic of sticky film canisters in the KK parking lot?

Where you have excessive eating going on you will also more than likely have fatness going on including morbid obesity.

So the likelihood of finding or accidently coming in contact with those fat people is far greater in a parking lot of a Krispy Kreme.

Actually, you totally missed the point of the thread which, by the way, was started long before the other thread was locked. The thread is NOT about Krispy Kreme. You'll have to figure out the rest on your own.

However, if it helps you, there are lots of KK caches in virtually every city that has KK's. Do a search - you'll find lots.
