Garmin chirp only

Recommended Posts

Is it allowd to make a chirp only cache?

When I read the new guidelines:

1. A new attribute for a “beacon” will be added soon. Any caches that use a Chirp (or any future similar device) should use this attribute.

2. If a cache owner puts a beacon in a traditional cache and geocachers have an alternative method to find it without using the beacon, then OK. I remind you to use the coming attribute.

3. If the cache owner insists on not providing an alternative means of finding the geocache, it must be listed as a mystery with the beacon attribute.

4. Cache descriptions may mention the “Chirp” as long as the text doesn’t go on and on with “overtones of advertising, marketing, or promotion” as per our long-standing commercial guidelines.

5. We do not plan to add a new cache type just for this.

When I read option 3 I should be allowed to use a chirp anly cache.

It would be listed as mystery and have the beacon attribute.

The location also does not make it possible to hide a cache box.

The cache was not accepted because it was a chirp only.

Bootom question:

Is it allowed or not. ??

Bottemline:

If there is no box, micro or nano te be found, then it can not be a geocache. :)

If you can hide a chirp, it should also be possible to hide a micro or nano. But a better way would be to let the chirp show a nearby location where a big box can be hidden :D

bottom line is you tried to place more of a Virtual Cache

the chirp is supposed to be used as means of giving info about the location of the actual cache not as the cache itself

You're asking after you know it's not allowed?

One good reason for a physical log is there's an amount of verification, to protect the cachers and cache owners, as it applies to playing the game. And you can hide a half-dozen "nano" sized micros in the space it takes to hide a Chirp.

You can make it a Travel Bug. There's no log to sign, you could have a Chirp only, and you can post the coordinates on the TB page. Or you can place a signature item with "mysterious coordinates" into the caches you find, or post the coords online somewhere, and invite people to hunt for it.
