Need assistance in Volusia County, FL

I am having a problem with my Megallan Explorist500, whereby the unit will not charge and keeps stating that it is running on battery. As this is not a new version GPS Magellan is offering no assistance. I am looking for a geocacher in the Volusia County, Florida area who is also using the same unit. Would like to meet to see if their cable/and or charger unit will correct this problem. Should take no more than a few minutes, and if the problem is in my cable...then I can proceed to find a replacement. Not sure if that is what the problem is, so did not want to purchase a replacement cable until I was certain. Would greatly appreciate someone's assistance. I got a cable on-line for less than $14. It was a lot beefier than the original Magellan cable. It might be worth a shot. I also had a charging problem because of the connection. The threads that held the cable to the unit stripped out and the unit randomly went from "cable" to "battery".
