Good and Happy Veterans Day. Here it is November 11, 2010 so I felt it would be an excellent thing to have a cointest. This shall be my THIRD year for this. For today only, I want those who are and have served in the military to post here. Tell me something about your service time. Which one were you in , for how long etc . . .

I will select the winner of the coin (s?) by random number selector. Cointest Stops at 2400 11 NOV 2010. No, don't know which coin you'll receive but they are usually one that you would want to get and own. I will let the selecter do its job by tomorrow sometime NO whining

AND

THANK YOU FOR SERVING TO KEEP the USA FREE and SAFE

Hi FH,

So, this is me... back in 1988 on the return from WestPac. I served from 1984-1999 in obviously the USNavy. This was my second Westpac of 7mos. I did 102 days in the Indian Ocean (along with 1 'beer day' on day 93). I really don't care about getting a coin.. but I just wanted to show off my little girl (who is now 25). After 2 ships, I went to shore duty as a Satellite Communications Technical Control supervisor at Naval Communications Station San Diego, then I went to USS Cowpens and did two tours in the Persian Gulf. Shot some Tomahawk cruise missiles into Iraq, came home and went to shore duty at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes teaching what I had been doing for the past 12 years to the new and improved Navy.

For me, it was all about doing something for the country I love - for others, it was about tyranny. In the end, it was about responsibility and how one can do the best they can.

Edit to add: This is that same little girl - 20 years later, who also served our country :)

I currently am still serving in the Air Force with 12 years in. Other deployments have included Kyrgyzstan & Qatar.

I'm proud to have continued my family's military heritage. My father served 30 years in the Coast Guard and my Grandfather served as a B-26 pilot with the Army Air Corp. (later becoming the Air Force) during WWII.

Thank You to all Veterans past and present for what you do!

I am not American so I haven't join US army/navy/airforce, but I was in the greek army, Served as a sergeant (my military duty) and... even if I am not in the army anymore... I am still a sergeant who has been called many times for exercises with real weapons etc.... Living in the borders and close to Turkey.... means that we are every minute in red alert... I even have my army clothes ready, here at home....

I do not know if I qualify just being an ally...

I wish I could post a photo to see me when I was 19 -20 years old and wearing my army uniform! girls loved it!:laughing: the cointest will be over soon, but maybe I can post some photos after some days...

I served 15 months! I was first at Athens in the Camp and then I came here! Being home, in my island was good, I had a place to sleep when I was out, clean clothes (no washing anymore), good food... only when I was out.. but serving in the borders was not easy! things were different back in my time... not like now...

I joined the Army on March 28, 1994.... that day was my birthday! I "finished" on June 28th 1995! of course.. I have been 8-9 times in exersises (staying outside in tends for a week or more..) after I left so...

I remember that we were running like crazy all the time! we were in exersises all the time... we did so many things... I learned many things and just because I was good... I went to almost all schools to learn weapons or other stuff....

I had some great time and fun but also some bad moments... well.. that's life! From all that I lost 41 kilos there!!!! when I finished my duty.. I was only 56 kilos!!! but I was so well trainned that my body was...not like now! :)

If I start telling stories from that time... I will not stop....

Happy veterans day to all! No matter the color of the uniform... we all do the same thing! We serve our country, our flag and we try to keep safe the country, our house, our family... everybody!

Be sure that the army men are the first who do not like war! the love peace! but when things come bad.. they are the ones who will be in the first line serving...

I salute brothers in arms!

My name is Rick. I've been full time in the Idaho Air National Guard for the past 8 1/2 years as a ground threat operator. I operate and maintain ground threat simulators that trains pilots to evade and defeat ground threats such as Anti-Aircraft Artillery and Surface-to-Air Missiles. Before I joined the Guard, I was Active Duty Air Force for 4 years stationed at Mountain Home AFB, ID. I was an avionics specialist for the F-15C.

I served in the Regular Army (US) from 1985-1988 when I was medically discharged. Could have gone home sooner but I wanted to make it to three years service and I did. Discharged due to Hodgkins Lymphoma and am happy to say it went into remission and has not relapsed.

I would also like to thank all who served whether in battle or not as it is not always that you have gone to war but the fact that you were willing to go if you were called to do so.

Thanks for the cointest! It was an honor to serve.

Hubby served in the Army for 4 years prior to meeting me, and then a couple of years in the reserves when we met in grad school. I remember being so worried that he would be sent over seas when the Gulf War started...but his reserve unit was not sent.

Quick edit to add THANK-YOU to all the veterans out there...and my hubby (who is spending his Veteran's Day 3 hours away where we first met).

I followed my father into the US Air Force. I served for six years with the 375th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron out of Scott AFB in Illinois. My brother was a in the US Navy.

My children followed my lead, my daughter served in the US Air Force and my son is still currently serving in the US Marines in Fuji Japan.

I never had the opportunity to serve even though I did try to enlist. The medics found a medical problem and denied my enlistment. However my father (US Army), my mother (US Air Force), and three of my uncles (1 in the US Air Force, 2 in the US Navy) did serve our country and I have always been proud of them.

I found this posted somewhere on the internet and have kept it around and now I will share it with you:

A veteran — whether active duty, retired, National Guard or reserve — is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote and blank check payable to “INSERT COUNTRY NAME HERE,” for an amount of “up to and including my life.” This is the honor of the veteran and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

I firmly believe in that statement and make it a habit to thank any active duty or retired veterans whenever I see them.

So I would like to take this opportunity to send out a special heartfelt THANK YOU to all veterans and active duty personnel on this forum for their service and for the sacrifices they have made for all of us. And another special thank you to FairyHoney for putting this cointest out there.

I love the last post about the blank check to our country. I put in 4 years USAF during Desert Storm. My husband put in 21 years in the Navy. He was on fast attack subs and loved his job. I have him home now and glad he is! Also proud to be a vet! I know I'm too late for the contest but I just want to say how proud I am of all of those who have served and continue to serve.
