Yeah, the ghost holding a film canister has a point here. My daugther has been shopping at Victoria's Secret since she was like 13. Mostly for sweatpants and hoodies. Very expensive sweatpants and hoodies, I might add. :)

I never really understood why the Victoria's Secret catalogue has this reputation for being ultra sexy. All the models are like 15, and wearing aforementioned sweatpants and hoodies.

I think it's because they sell lingerie, and put a heavy emphasis on it. Their advertising doesn't exactly fight the reputation either.

The lingerie is only like, the last 3 pages of the catalogue. Srsly.

I don't see a problem with it. The stores are legal businesses and, if you stop and think about it, it is an activity that virtually everyone enthusiastically partakes of a few times in their life. Think about where you came from... :)

Looking at porn is to where babies come from as souvenirs are to geocaching. :)

Fun for many but not absolutely required?

To me, Family Friendly Sport implies that geocaching in general can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. It does not imply that every single cache out there is appropriate for the entire family. If that were so, then the majority of terrain 5 caches would disappear.

If the cache meets the guidelines, then there should be no problem. just drive on by if it is not your cup of tea.

Around here, there are adult stores, and then there are adult stores.

There are stores like Adam & Eve, that sell lingerie and toys and cater to couples.

Then there are those other stores. The ones that are really seedy looking, and have a few magazines in the front and "private" video booths in the back. I understand that some of these establishments serve as meeting places for people seeking casual sex with strangers. Sometimes these encounters take place in the video booths, sometimes in the parking lot.

The first kind of store, I have no problem with. The second kind, that cache is going on my ignore list.

Same here. I could never figure it out. But I may be biased, since Victoria's Secret doesn't sell bras for ladies with my bra size, and that's irritating. You apparently have to be a stick to buy anything from them.

The thread title is waaay off. A new low? I've been caching for over 8 years, and remember the first time I found a cache at an 'adult' establishment about 5 years ago. It's also been at least that long since I found some caches in a pickle park. Neither location really offends my personal sensibilities or morals, but the former is certainly more 'family friendly' in the traditional sense, than the latter. :)

Corporate owned adult establishments are opening up in strip malls (pun intended) and shopping centers all over. I've seen Adam and Eve, VS, and even Hustler Stores in my travels. I don't see any reason why those parking lots cannot have caches any more than any other retail business can.

My original intent was "why look at pictures when you could be actually doing it?" But after thinking about it some more, I believe sbell111 is right. Some people may see it as an enchancement to their enjoyment while others will feel it is unnecessary. I'll try to remember to stick to ice cream analogies from now on. :)

Florida style = under palmetto leaves

There is some controversy on this subject, with even experienced cachers and reviewers getting it wrong, totally wrong, wrong, wrong.

"Florida Style" does NOT mean on the ground under dead fronds, or any other type of forest stickoflage...

FLORIDA STYLE = IN THE BOOTJACK OF A PALM TREE

:)

I'll have to disagree with you on this one. Cachers here in Florida were calling caches hidden under Palm fronds Florida Style long before people started hiding micros of any sort "IN THE BOOTJACK OF A PALM TREE"

I think Trader Rick and Rosie is a much newer team account, and the poster goes way back to the early days of Geocaching. I'd be interested to hear more input on this. Better than me taking it off-topic to a Victoria's Secret discussion, I suppose. :)

Not trying to derail this thread so this will be my last input on the Florida Style comment. For those interested a link to a discussion on the topic that started back in 2003.

Now back to the topic of Adult Bookstore hides. the great thing about caching is that everyone can find enjoyment in their own way with all the different styles and places of hides, Those that don't think a particular cache is up their ally Groundspeak has given us all a button to Ignore any cache we don't personally feel we will enjoy. Just remember if you don't think a cache will be fun you can bypass it and move on to the next.

I've got some mixed feelings about this thread.

My first thought is the same as GeoBeeBee (above), there are some stores I have gone into that are for couples and are clean well-lit places. Around here it's called, "Lovers". They are nice stores with clothing and "other things."

Then there are those stores that I would not feel safe in the parking lot of. Seedy dirty places on the bad side of town with booths in the back.

One I would feel fine about getting a cache at; the other I would not. And I'm not even talking about children here. It's about my own personal safety.

This is a family game, but all of the caches cannot be gotten by children. There is a scuba cache near me, there are caches that require rappelling, in fact any 4 or 5 terrain cache is generally not for children.

So would I object to someone placing a cache in the lot of their favorite toy store? Well perhaps not, but I don't have to go get it.

I wouldn't be upset to find a geocache the parking lot for adult stuff. It's just a parking lot. Just like walmart, or any old strip mall. It's no more insulting to me than any other parking lot hide. A child likely wouldn't know what is inside based on what is written on the outside.

Don't know when caches are placed but sometimes adult stores kind float through a neighborhood. Open up and close right away. I would venture to guess that some adult parking lots were not always adult parking lots.

My take.

Meets the guidlines. No issue.

But what is going through the CO mind? S/He must be one disturbed individule. Not to mention that parking lot caches are lame.

As for the "no products in the windows", around here they have under clothing on maniquins, much like Victoria Secret would (exept not quite as professional).

Adult stores around here have "under clothing" in the window displays (for that matter, so does Sears). They might also have books, novelty items, candles, toiletries, and any number of other items that they sell. They can't display sexually explicit materials or objects. I don't even think they can display the toys that look like cute little animals.

I really can't imagine what someone could see on the outside of the store that is so outrageous and offensive that a geocache shouldn't be placed there. The cheeky, wink-wink-nudge-nudge name of the store on a sign? Some underwear? It's simply unreasonable to call someone "disturbed" for placing a geocache outside of a legal business.

Yeah, its no worse than putting a geocache outside of a Veronica's Secret store or a Paris Hilton boutique.

Ok, so I know that this thread is not about Victoria's Secret but I feel like I need to make a comment about it. I used to work for the company and I will personally tell you ITS NOT THAT BAD. People often compare them to Fredericks of Holloywood or some other trashy lingerie store but its not. Yes there is sexy lingerie in there and bras and panties OH NO! Come on, be a little more mature about it. I do agree that its not a place for young kids to be, but they do sell other things than bras and panties. As one person has previously stated their daughter has been shopping in there for years buying sweat shirts and pants (and yes I will agree that the prices are a bit much). They also sell a lot of beauty items as well. Yes their ads are "adult" but you know what look at all the other things in the world that kids are seeing and hearing. I can think of a few other things that kids can see/hear/play that are much worse than Victoria's Secret, And as someone else has stated if you pull up and realize its some place you would rather not have your kids at then just by pass it and move on to the next. Sorry about the anger but working there for so long I have heard it all from different people and like I said its not that bad!

Nothing to see here. What with a 6 word cache page, and no evidence of what the business is from Google sat view or street view. I think they used more characters to congratulate the FTF'er. Is it another adult store parking lot cache?

Who thinks a cache in the parking lot of an adult book store is appropriate ?

I think that it is a bit tacky.

This is suppose to be a family friendly game. This is very tacky but GS will allow it, just like they allow n00bs to place caches without any idea of what they are doing.

Then don't go looking for it. And if the logs are bothering you, quit reading them.

I just think that a person who think they need to get others to come to that parking log has some issues. Kind of like a school kids who think it is funny to put a dirty magazine in bag of the class 'good' kid. It is the "Heh Heh, watch this, it will be so funny" attitude. Well guess what, it is not funny, it is lame.

This is not suggesting that people who shop at one of these shops have issues, just the CO.

I think you're giving the cache owner too much credit. These kinds of hides have very little thought behind them beyond "Here's a spot that doesn't already have a cache, better put one there."

I hope your joking? It's just a clothes store. Nothing "Adult" about it.

I totally agree - but that was my point - not all will agree that Victoria's Secret is just another store - these folks, for example: http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?id=17119

This excerpt from that link is particularly appropriate, since it is about the store which has (or had, I haven't looked to see if it's still active) a cache on the flower gazebo in front of the window!

Her complaint may be the first from a pre-teen about Victoria's Secret advertisements but it is not the first to originate from Alabama. On Nov. 11, the city council in the Birmingham suburb of Homewood approved a decency ordinance after receiving complaints about the Victoria's Secret window display at Colonial Brookwood Village Mall.

I can't imagine how these stores stay in business when couples can buy stuff discreetly online... I think they need the caches to draw business.

:)

Some people just don't think there's any reason for anybody - in a couple or not - to be "discreet" about shopping at an "adult" store. Maybe this is more true of Canada than the US, but these stores have become pretty mainstream. It doesn't matter if you're buying a toaster or a personal toy, the internet just can't replicate the experience of in-store shopping. A lot of these stores are carefully designed to be friendly and welcoming for women - they're way more spa than skeeze.

There are few adult businesses in Sweden, but where is one I know of: McDragans. Those kind of places are not my thing, but it´s very near a road I sometimes travel. This is his logo, not suitable for the most sensitive:http://www.privatbloggen.se/2009/04/05/mcd...-nar-utomlands/. McDonalds is not pleased.

Mr Dragan also have the Absolute Pleasure Café, upsetting the owner of Absolute Vodka...

McDragans would be a nice place for a "weird" cache if not being very close to GC181D7.

I would rather a cache in the parking lot of an Adult bookstore than a port-a-potty anyday! Quite honestly, the adult bookstore really doesn't bother me. I am not very uptight about that sort of thing.

the port-a-potty on 7th st? already found that one. luckily for the hider i didn't drop it.

At first I was thinking that being discreet about shopping at an adult store was off-topic, but then I remembered all the threads about being discreet when hunting for a cache in a high muggle area. My take therefore is that if you are being discreet nobody is going to notice you looking for the cache - so whether it is the parking lot of an adult boutique or on the street in front of a Starbucks, if you are being discreet you should be able to sign the log and replace the cache without muggles paying you any attention. (Of course you may also want to take the cache and move it a safe distance away to sign the log, but that is another thread).

If you find one of these caches and happen to spot me wandering in the door don't jump to conclusions. I'm just checking on the permission status of the cache. Yeah, that's it. The permission status.

THese stores are also a great place to buy AA batteries.
