Ethics / Ettiquette question...

If I'm planning to go on a long vacation, would there be anything wrong with returning to caches near my house that I have already found, grabbing Travel Bugs, enterring it in the logbook and online as only a note (not a find) and properly showing the TB in my possesion, and then placing it in a cache far away while on vacation?

I'm thinking of collecting a bunch of them.

Also, to change to the real scenario... is there a way I could grab them for my wife, log them to her posession (can you transfer the holder of a TB without doing it via a cache?), and let her place them when she goes on vacation away from me?

I definitely don't want them logged in my possession and then have to log onto caches that I never went to (I suppose I could do it in a Note so that I don't end up with "Falsified Finds").

What are the opinions of the Geocacher population on this one? I'd like y'all's input.

That's fine. The only time I'd advise against it is if it would go against the TB's goal.

You can easily transfer who holds the bug without going to a cache. Just go under your wife's account and "grab" it. It will then change hands without incurring any mileage.

Of course, maybe you could just collect them under her account in the first place. It all depends on if you want them showing on your TB list or not.

Actually, I'd rather not have them on my TB list, since I won't be involved at both ends of the transfer.

But, I forgot... I'm actually gonna be out of comission for a week. I'm trying to get used to the fact that I have to stay off my feet for a week... maybe I can do some walking in a few days since it was running in combination with walking too many miles that did me in - Plantar Fasciitis. Perhaps as long as I don't run I will be okay to do some walking in a few days.

Anyway, she has been to all of the ones I have, so she might as well go get the TB's on her own. She already has one more cache find than I do (she called me a little while ago to tell me), so collecting TB's will keep her busy while I'm convalescing.

Oh well, maybe we will be able to find some that are in areas that I can expect to get to the cache without walking very far. I guess I need some caches for the physically impaired.

What you describe is fine, if you're helping the bugs towards their goal, going back to a cache is OK.

But one personal opinion to note before collecting bugs: don't clear out every bug in your area and take 12 of them to another region. You could be called a bug-hog. (Mark, I doubt highly that you could monopolize all the bugs in the Seattle area, so this doesn't really apply to you, but rather to readers in areas that aren't as cache-rich and bug-rich.) One month after I started caching, I was going on a trip so I collected every travel bug I could find within 30 miles of my house. Pittsburgh was left bug-less. I don't do that anymore; I will pick a few bugs that I can really help towards their goal, and leave the rest for the enjoyment of other cachers.

Next time, instead of getting married, I think I'll just find a woman I don't like and buy her a house.

Good point.

As you mentioned, it won't be a problem for us.

I'm just figuring it'd be fun to grab a few (maybe half a dozen) to take to Florida, and then watch them to see where they go.

Sort of a cheapskate's way to enjoy travel bugs... restart them off on the other side of the country and see where they go from there.

I'd be willing to buy a few & all, But Sherri and I just started, so we want to get a feel for Travel Bugs before venturing into some of our own.
