+CachingPumpkins
Hi Fellow Cachers, I am looking for any cachers going to the Galapagos Islands in the next four months to check on some unpublished caches for me. I apologize in advance, I'm sure this is a mortal sin of geocaching, but I placed two there and never submitted them to the site. Well, I want to atone, but first want to make sure they're still there. Please let me know. Contact me through the site (User Name is "CachingPumpkins") ASAP, and I'll send you the two coordinates. Best, CP Quote Link to comment

Plus to be honest physical caches in the Galapagos sound like a terrible idea for one of the most environmentally sensitive areas in the world- another reason I'm sure they'd never be approved. I took a look right now and there's only a virtual and an earthcache in the whole area and I suspect that's for a very good reason. Wish I was going there to retrieve them, but hope someone else will be going soon! Quote Link to comment

Thanks for the heads-up, but what about the Madagascar cache by someone who lives in Seattle? (GCVPPZ) And, I'm sure there are other examples as well. In addition, I was actually there for work, go back on occasion for work, and have naturalist friends there that I can ask to go and check on them as needed. None of them are geocachers, though, so I was hoping to give first crack to cachers. Still looking for folks, so let me know! All the best, CP Quote Link to comment

All the best, CP If you read the cache page you will note the cache owners sister lives near the cache. No doubt she agreed to perform needed maintenance. With a viable maintenance plan the reviewer can feel comfortable with, and repeat visits to the area, the cache can be approved. Quote Link to comment

Wish I was going there to retrieve them, but hope someone else will be going soon! Geocachers are really fantastic. I do appreciate the concern for keeping to the rules both of Geocaching, and for the National Parks. I'm the same way. I've spent a cumulative 30+ weeks in Galapagos for my job, and have learned these rules well. Have no fear, I took them into consideration when placing these two caches, even running them by a highly experienced researcher at the Charles Darwin Research Station (CDRS). While it's true that most of the Galapagos are Ecuadorian National Park, there is an exception on the island of Santa Cruz, in the town of Puerto Ayora. The town is not part of the National Park, and it's where one of the caches lies on public property. The other one is at the famous Post Office Barrel on Floreana Island. This is where people leave postcards in a barrel for other travelers to take home and hand-deliver. Post Barrel on Floreana Island from Wikipedia As you can see, there are a bunch of signs made from driftwood. These are occasionally taken away when they start to look junky, but are mostly left alone because they are seen as part of the experience of the Post Office Barrel. My hide there is much less conspicious than these signs or even the barrel itself. Thanks again for the advice! Sincerely, CP Quote Link to comment

I can't find the GC # now, so I suspect it's been archived. I did a number of caches in the Galapagos when I was there a few years back. Wonderful place. Quote Link to comment
+A&K 2010
Hi, I know this seems like a long dead forum, but I was just in the galapagos, at the Post Office Barrel on Floreana. I wasn't expecting it, having looked at galapagos caches before the trip, but as we were looking through the post cards for ones close to us, I came across a slip of paper that said "GEOCACHE - go to geocaching.com" on top. Naturally, I signed it, very pleasantly surprised. Others had signed it too, some only a few days before me. But now that I am home trying to log the find, there seems to be no record of it on geocaching.com. Anyone know about the status of this cache?? Thanks, Katherine Quote Link to comment

Thanks, Katherine Well you probably found CachingPumpkins cache. By the way, is that an awesome username or what? Get it, like Smashing Pumpkins, the band? Never heard of them before, and they just stopped by to start that thread. Certainly not a forum regular. I'd contact them directly through their profile. Quote Link to comment
