I think you're way past the noobie stage....but if you are anything like us - you'll still have those caching days when you feel like a noobie! Quote Link to comment
+ngrrfan
how many finds does it take before your no longer a noobie? 200,000 You're always a newbie. I saw a certain type of cache last week for the first time and it threw me for a loop trying to find it. So I was a newbie... I learned something. +Ms.Scrabbler
I seem to remember DNFs indicated on the map some time ago. Quote Link to comment

Many are the times I've given it my best shot and someone looking where I just looked says "Found it!" Yeah, sometimes I feel like a total n00b! Quote Link to comment
+GrateBear
That's an interesting idea. Perhaps that would encourage the actual logging of DNFs, which seems to be somewhat of a stigma around my area. I like it! Quote Link to comment

Pup Patrol
I would love it if our DNF's were displayed on the map, along with the "found it" ones. Would give me a great visual for cache trip planning and incentive to turn those frowns upside-down. Quote Link to comment
Dinoprophet
I wish DNFs were more accessible all around. I suppose some people might be less inclined to log them if they were easily available to everyone, but DNFs are sometimes the best stories! Quote Link to comment

+xc turtles
I love that idea. I have asked myself that same question. It makes sense that you would see both. Smiles and frowns. Quote Link to comment
+TomToad
I guess I'll be the one to disagree. I think that many people wouldn't want to see frownys staring at them every time they look at the map, which would make them more inclined not to log their DNFs. For myself, I wouldn't want to be showing someone new about geocaching and have a bunch of frownys show up on the map as it might give them the impression that geocaching is difficult. If you want to know what you've DNFed, you can get to it from the profile page by clicking Show all logs for: Geocaches - Then clicking Didn't Find It. If it is implemented, I hope it is off by default so you will only see it when you are truly interested in what you didn't find. Quote Link to comment

Yes, I know how to find my DNF logs in my profile, and see the GC codes and names of caches I have DNF'ed. But it would be much more helpful if I could actually SEE them when I pull up a geocaching map, where my Found it's are displayed. DNF's are part of the game, and if you're showing someone your activity on a map, then it would be just part of the explanation. I've got one cache that I've looked for and not found 3 times now. And I've posted 3 DNF's for it. I'm not so twisted up over this game that I see DNF's as a "fail" or a strike. But I guess that's the way some people view them. Quote Link to comment
+TomToad
I guess I wasn't exactly clear in my last post. I don't have problems with DNFs, nor do I see them as a failure. My example of showing someone new was more to illustrate my previous point. If I can find a reason I don't want DNFs displayed on a map, someone that doesn't normally worry about things like that; then how much more so the person that already has trouble posting DNFs as it is? DNFs are an important part of the game. It gives valuable information to the CO and other cachers. Anything that discourages the posting of DNFs I think would be a bad idea, and I think this is one thing that would discourage many not to post. I do see some merit in the idea, though; but if it does get implemented, it should be an option which is off by default. Quote Link to comment
