fly46 Posted August 15, 2003 Posted August 15, 2003 I am shortly going to be the proud owner of two travel bugs - my check just went in the mail to a fellow Cacher who will be sending me my bugs. Not that I have $10 to spend, but I did anyway.. lol.. So now I'm faced with delemmas.. I don't know what to do... Lots of people seem to just put "as many caches as it can" or something like that, which to me seems kinda generic. One thing I was thinking of was to attatch a bug to a post card and ask people to move the bug on to another cache and then send me a post card to show where the bug had travelled (I collect post cards) Problem being if i move, the address will change, and how many people will actually send a post card? IMPUT ON THIS IDEA PLEASE NO clue at all on what to do with the second bug.. Ideas??? Quote
McCaughan Family Posted August 15, 2003 Posted August 15, 2003 Put your address on the TB's mission page. You can always edit it and make a new one. Or "email me for current address" Geocaching Families of East TN Quote

Mark 42 Posted August 15, 2003 Posted August 15, 2003 How about "to wander aimlessly about"? "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it" Quote
Sparrowhawk Posted August 15, 2003 Posted August 15, 2003 How to theme a bug: Think about what you care about in life... motorcycles, aviation, The Simpsons, whatever... Theme your bug accordingly. If I were a Simpsons fan, for instance, I would want it to visit as many towns named "Springfield" all over the USA as it can. -Elana (a.k.a. "Sparrowhawk") Quote
mortaine Posted August 15, 2003 Posted August 15, 2003 A postcard bug could actually work, you know. Get one of those itty bitty souvenir postcard booklets. Tear off one postcard from the booklet. On the back of the postcard, write your TB instructions, telling people to check the TB page and get your snail-mail address off of it. Put it inside a photo keychain-- they should be about the same size. Attach the keychain to your TB: voila! A durable postcard Travel Bug! Or you could just laminate a postcard with your TB instructions. Since a person can pick up the bug, note the TB #, drop it off in a cache on the same day and still be able to get your snail-mail address, I suspect you would get some postcards from fellow geocachers. You might also want to promise to return the favor and send them one back if they send you a postcard. Also, if you're a postcard fan, you might be interested in PostcardX. As for the other TB ideas.... hang onto them-- it'll come to you. I have unreleased 5 TBs sitting in my desk drawer. A special occassion is coming up where I might release one, if it seems appropriate. Meanwhile, they will sit there until I have a burst of creativity and decide to send them out. The bug I did release is a Joke Book-- it's heading to Missouri, collecting kid-appropriate jokes on the way. When it gets there, I'm going to go pick it up with my nephew Austin, who will get to keep it. The book is currently in Lake Tahoe, so when I'm out visiting Austin in 2 weeks, we're going to go geocaching so I can explain the game to him and possibly have him release a TB of his own. Even if the joke book never makes it to him, it's fun knowing that there are people out there sharing a chuckle in his behalf. Quote
Team Kilroy Posted August 16, 2003 Posted August 16, 2003 You may want to consider holding onto one for awhile until the next Travel Bug Race is organized, and entering one in that, it sounds like lots of fun. Just read some of the other threads to find out about it. Quote
fly46 Posted August 18, 2003 Author Posted August 18, 2003 I've never seen those mini post card books you're talking about. I saw someone on here wanted to do a 50 states race, and I think that would be cool! I was thinking something like all 50 states anyway... But still... one bug down, one to go. Ugh. Quote
