dollhouse@montanasky Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Looking at getting a GPS and would like your opinion.. I am also a hunter and would like to get one that would satisfy both these activities. Not very complicated as I have never used one but am looking forward to learning.. thanks for any advice. Quote
+randco Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Try reading this then this. After you have done the reading you should be able to decide. Quote
+briansnat Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 How much are you willing to spend? Do you want it to do road navigation too? Do you want paperless geocaching (meaning that the unit will display the entire cache page instead of simply coordinates and basic info)? Do you prefer a touch screen or buttons? Quote
dollhouse@montanasky Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 As long as it's not complicated is what I'm looking for, Don't care if it's paperless, etc. cost wise looking to spend up to 400. or so. I read the above information from randco but would probably get more out of that book Geocaching for dummy's,, lol. Thank you. Quote
sabrefan7 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 (edited) If your a hunter then I recommend one that uses TOPO maps like the Garmin GPS MAP 60 series I use a 60csx and love it. They are now no longer being made but the newer versions look very nice https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145 You can find them cheaper at Sporting goods stores like Gander Mtn. ect. The maps that come with them are OK. But you can get better and free ones at http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/state/all Edited October 17, 2010 by sabrefan7 Quote
dollhouse@montanasky Posted October 17, 2010 Author Posted October 17, 2010 Thank you for the information,, I am looking at a Garmin 62 at the moment and think that it would work nicely for both applications... Quote
NordicMan Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Yep the 62 would definitely fill your requirement, it is currently Garmin's Cadillac unit You could also look at the Oregon series, the screens are larger, but may be a bit tougher to see on bright sunny days Quote
+jeffbouldin Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 You also might want to look at the Delorme PN-40 or PN-60. Both are great units that come with Topo and street routable maps. Quote
