+user13371 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 (edited) Has anyone tried this yet? http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/galileo-off...d321745474?mt=8 The basic app is free and looks like a decent online map viewer. But here's the attractive part: A $2 in-app purchase lets you use it to load your own map content (e.g., stuff you could build with MOBAC) for OFFLINE use. I'm playing with it now but it'll take me a long time to figure out how to use. Anyone already have some pointers or examples? Edited October 6, 2010 by lee_rimar Quote

Looks interesting .... but two things pop into my mind: 1) I'd rather not have to use a desktop pc to generate my maps (why not WiFi?) 2) I can live with the PC I guess -- is there a cost for the Mobile Atlas Creator software? +user13371 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Mobile Atlas Creator is no cost, and is availavle for PC, Mac, Unix. http://mobac.dnsalias.org/ You really DO want a desktop system with a fat pipe to download imagery and process it to make maps. It can take hours for a big one. I have gotten MOBAC to work and created some offline maps from various online sources. But while the Galileo iPhone app does work for viewing the maps, it's not what I would call a proper navigation program -- needs to do more than just show my location on a map (waypoints, tracks, etc).
