+brainradio Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 About 4-5 times a year I travel to a city 5 hours away from home for work and family. Are there issues with placing caches in the city or along the route? Quote
jholly Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 About 4-5 times a year I travel to a city 5 hours away from home for work and family. Are there issues with placing caches in the city or along the route? If you can convince the reviewer you have a viable maintenance plan you should be able to place in the city. Along the route might take a bit of work. Quote
Motorcycle_Mama Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 In addition to what jholly has said, be please sure to read and really understand the Cache Listing Guidelines/Requirements for information on placing caches for publication on Geocaching.com. http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx In particular the section about Cache Maintenance. http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#maint It may be difficult to fulfill your maintenance obligations if you place a cache while traveling on vacation or otherwise outside of your normal caching area. These caches may not be published unless you are able to demonstrate an acceptable maintenance plan. It is not uncommon for caches to go missing, areas to be cleared, trails to be blocked or closed, objects used for multi-cache or puzzles to be moved or removed, etc. Your maintenance plan must allow for a quick response to reported problems. The territory in which a geocacher is able to maintain caches responsibly will vary from one person to the next. An active geocacher who regularly visits areas hundreds of miles apart can demonstrate their ability to maintain a cache 100 miles from home. A geocacher whose previous finds and hides are all within 25 miles of their home would likely not see their cache published if placed 250 miles away from their home. If you have special circumstances, please describe your maintenance plan on your cache page. For example, if you have made arrangements with a local geocacher to watch over your distant cache for you, that geocacher’s name should be mentioned on your cache page. Quote
+jeffbouldin Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I live in the Nashville, TN area and work frequently in Memphis. I have found 100s of caches there. I pointed this out to the reviewer when I submitted my cache. I also got a local cacher to agree to help at times I wasn't able to get there. I posted this in my notes to the reviewer, also. With this info it went through with no problem. Quote
+TreasureKid's Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 We only have a few caches out but my rule for my son is that any caches we can't check on regularly have to be log only caches. This way we can check on them monthly and usually log only caches require less attention. Quote
+vw_k Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Would any of your family members in that city be prepared to check on the cache for you? If you had someone local to the cache who could maintain it if you weren't there then the reviewer may view that as an acceptible maintenance plan. Quote
