+Scoopitup
I saw some of these setting behind a convenience store and immediately thought CCC. What do you think? Would this fly if I disabled the coin box? Maybe 'The Geocaching Times'. Quote Link to comment
+BulldogBlitz
i've seen one in the woods. i've also seen an active one used for a cache... it was the free newspaper variety and seemed to work out alright. it is in service in a real location (next to a bunch of pay newspaper machines). +roziecakes
I've seen a few of these in active free newspaper boxes. It seems to work best if the cache is magnetized somewhere that muggles won't see it. I love the idea of finding one in the woods. That's funny. Quote Link to comment
vagabond
I've done more then I care to remember either in the free boxes or active news boxes most have been magnetic Quote Link to comment
knowschad
There is a cache in an ATM in Arizona. Some friends tried to do it, but weren't able to figure out the combination lock. Are you saying that these boxes are available for you to use? Quote Link to comment
AZcachemeister
The (allegedly) first urban micro in the Phoenix area was just such a cache. Hidden inside an active pay-for-a-paper vending machine. The cache (supposedly) had quarters inside to re-imburse finders for the money spent on the find. I spent $.50, but no smiley. GOF and Bacall
I've seen all the "Bee" caches I care to. Around here if the paper box says "Bee" on the side of it it probably has a magnetic key holder in it. I don't even consider stopping any more. Quote Link to comment

I haven't found enough caches in my geocaching life to become jaded enough to not consider stopping for a cache no matter where it is hidden. Bring on the paper boxes! I'll go get 'em! GOF and Bacall
You can have 'em. I'll take the scenic overlooks or the cool woods. The historic sites and the hidden treasures along the less traveled back roads. Quote Link to comment

I mean the "Bee" name in New York, not necessarily the steel free streetcorner newspaper box with a keyholder inside. Find one Bee cache, and you don't even need a GPS for the other 50; just take a gander at the map on the cache page, and stop by next time you're in the neighborhood. Or just randomly notice one, and stop by, and chances are there's a keyholder inside. For "them" at least. Not me, I'm one of "us". Quote Link to comment

+hukilaulau
This could actually be interesting if people would write the front page headline from the day they found the cache in their online log. In a brief random check of some logs, NO ONE did this... Quote Link to comment
+webscouter.
One of the best caches I have done was a newspaper box. The box was owned by the cacher and the whole inside of the box was the cache. The box had a lock on it that the puzzle page had the combo for. Now key safes on the outside of a public newsbox, those aren't so much fun. Quote Link to comment
+Harry Dolphin
There was one I found a long time ago, hidden in a newspaper box. The paper cost 50 cents. The reviewer archived it as being 'commercial'. Quote Link to comment

So yes, if the OP can own one of these boxes and do the same, that would be highly cool I think, and qualify as a CCC. Quote Link to comment
+DresselDragons
We had a stage as a magnetic card on a newspaper box once...I'll never do that again. One day the newspaper company decided to upgrade the box...they hauled it away (including stage 1) and replaced it with a new one. Quote Link to comment

The "Needs Maintenance" log exists for a reason. Quote Link to comment
+DanOCan
We have one of those around here. The top part of the vending machine contains sheets which explain Geocaching, the secured part of the vending machine is protected by a combination lock, which one figures out by solving a puzzle. Inside the newspaper box is a large Rubbermaid container with the logbook and swag. One of the best urban cammo jobs I've ever seen. Quote Link to comment

Any chance it is in a good location? That would be the chocolate sauce on the sundae. 1 Quote Link to comment
