+KJcachers
Any events scheduled around the last 2 Space Shuttle launches? We will be attending the launch on November 1, 2010 and were hoping to find a local event to celebrate our 1500 milestone along with the launch! If no events we will will be looking for a good cache as close to the Kennedy Space Center as possible. Quote Link to comment
+narcissa
I'm planning to hitch a ride to the space station to get the space station cache. OMG, that reminds me, did you guys know there's a cache on the space station?!?!? Quote Link to comment

As of now, there is no such event that I know of, but if I see one, I'll let you know. Quote Link to comment
+BulldogBlitz
do shuttle launches qualify as geocaching events? Quote Link to comment
+KJcachers
do shuttle launches qualify as geocaching events? No, and the original question was looking for an event based on the launch. Too hard to comprehend? There is a Virtual at the Kennedy Space Center so that may be my option for a 1500 milestone while at the launch. Quote Link to comment

+Isonzo Karst
you might want to post to the Space Coast Geocachers website I'd expect any launch themed event to be held well south of the cape. There are great views of launches from all over the coast (Depending upon cloud cover, I can see the shuttle go up and I live clear across the state). Also, the locals know that the date is subject to change. Quote Link to comment
+Scooter Rider
In another hobby Ham Radio I have logged contacts with two Shuttle missions and one with the station . Can I claim a crew member as part of my cache team and have them sine the log for the find? Quote Link to comment
+mtn-man
Also, the locals know that the date is subject to change. That's the key right there. I am planning on being down there too, but my primary focus will be on my viewing location most likely. Quote Link to comment
+KJcachers
Got VIP tickets through Grayline Tours...if all goes well we will be watching the launch from the Causeway! Quote Link to comment

I am planning on being down there too, but my primary focus will be on my viewing location most likely. I friend was stationed there and could get me in for launches with a minimum of fuss, but just as I was making travel plans they put off a launch for a couple weeks. Highly variable are the times and dates. Quote Link to comment
+mtn-man
In the good ol' days I got on the site near the VAB where the workers, astronauts wives and the press got to go. Back then if you wrote your congressmen they would get you passes if you were lucky. Three separate missions, never saw it go up. Saw vapor twice. Once down to three seconds. All three were rescheduled beyond the time I could stay in the area. If there was an event in the area at the time I would attend, but my main focus is where I see it from. Quote Link to comment
