The Guvnor
Hi everyone im very new to geochching (2 days to be exact) but am totally hooked. I currently use my iphone 3gs with the Groundspeak app which has worked fine and means i can go paperless. After reading through a few posts it seems that a GPS unit would be more accurate in the final homing in on the cache so my question is this. What is a cheap accurate GPS unit? I dont need to to have anything fancy and dont want to spend £££ on maps ect, is there a unit that suits my needs or should i just stick with my iphone? Many Thanks Quote Link to comment
+dfx
the garmin etrex H is probably the most basic and cheapest unit you can get. no maps, no compass, no geocaching capabilities, just a big arrow that you need to follow to the coords. Quote Link to comment

+John in Valley Forge
Be careful buying just based on lowest price. You may end up with something that is less user friendly and accurate than your iPhone. I'd recommend reading lots of reviews and asking questions here before making any purchase. The Guvnor
Thanks for the advice guys, my choice wont be based just on price but i dont want to fork out for a unit that will have a load of features i dont use as ive got an iphone, so i guess my main criteria would be an accurate unit that dont break the bank if there is such a thing lol. What Garmin unit would u suggest wilddav? Thanks again Quote Link to comment

What Garmin unit would u suggest wilddav? Thanks again Look at the Garmin eTrex Legend H. You can find it for about $120. It's a basic unit but has mapping capability if you choose to add maps. I would get this over the regular eTrex H because the Legend H has a USB connection for PC connectivity. The Legend H has the old serial connection and most new PCs that come with a serial port. Though the eTrex H is about $30 cheaper than the Legend H, once you buy the data cable and USB adapter you've spend that $30 and then some. Some people might suggest the Venture H because it has a color display (Legend H is b/w), but I give the nod to the Legend H because it's waypoint capacity is double that of the Venture H.
