+flavioxavier
Hi all greetings from Portugal, I'm going next week to spend 4 day in the UK, more specific in Sheffield, and surrounding area. Basically I'm writing this to know what caches are there that you must do (basically the best caches), and any advice you can give me. I'm going to be 2 or 3 day in the Sheffield area, and I'm probably going a day to York. So what are the best caches that I should't miss in this places? Are there some cache/place (like a monument, natural park, etc) nearby that I should also go in the region (I will not have a car so I can only really on public transportation.)? Sorry for my English and thanks for any response. PS: Any nice bar to see Arsenal - Braga (my hometown) champions league game in Sheffield? Quote Link to comment
reelcutter
Hi, we stayed in York last year we didn't do any cache boxes just a couple of virtuals, they were holes in the wall and The stonegate Devil. We enjoyed doing them anyway. York is a great historical city. Enjoy England and good luck for the match againt that French team from down south. Quote Link to comment
reelcutter
Holes in the wall GCAFE6, Stongate Devil GC4762. Quote Link to comment
Ephemeral Moment
This little walk looks a good one GC1A1PP, remember that most of the York and Sheffield town caches will be micros - some like those some don't The series that goes around the wall would also be quite nice #1 - http://coord.info/GC23VTC #2 - http://coord.info/GC23VTD #3 - http://coord.info/GC23VTE #4 - http://coord.info/GC23VTG #5 - http://coord.info/GC23VTH I would do these two in between this point to continue a circular walk - York Micro #16 Walmgate Bar - http://coord.info/GC1N5XR Traditional CacheYork Micro #8 The Red Tower - http://coord.info/GC1FAMK #6 - http://coord.info/GC23VTJ #7 - http://coord.info/GC23VTK #8 - http://coord.info/GC23VTN Hope that's an idea Quote Link to comment
+Mark+Karen
Sheffield is tricky for caches. I stayed in the City Centre and there weren't many to find in the first place! Mostly nano's in the city centre. The only one I found was a nano by the sauce factory, and wasn't a very nice retrieval. York is much better for caches. Firstly there's loads of them! There is a cache series which will take you right the way around the city walls, and there's much more besides. I have a cache in York too, on the eastern side, next to the University, a nice easy one to do on the drive in perhaps GC2BN9Z (York Science Park), and it's a big box, not a micro Edited September 13, 2010 by markhewitt1978 Quote Link to comment
+Mallah
Can you tell us which part of Sheffield you will be in. Quote Link to comment
+flavioxavier
Thanks for all your replies, I will be leaving today latter in the day. TheHappyWanderer & reelcutter: Thanks for the suggestions, I marketed in the TODO list. markhewitt1978: I'll be a day max in York, but I'll see if I can do your cache. TheHalliwells: I'll be staying in a friends house in Everton Road, Sheffield, UK. Thanks for the help, after the trip I'll say how it was. Quote Link to comment
+Gackt
I haven't done any up that way (live down south), but a virtual I really want to do one day, which is in Yorkshire, but a little way from York itself though is 'Bram Stokers Whitby Cache' GCHQ99. Probably too far though if you are there just a day. Hope you have a good stay. Quote Link to comment
+Guanajuato
Where you're staying is near Endcliffe Park. I've not found it, but GCXT33 is nearby. Its a lovely walk through Endcliffe Park and on through Whiteley woods past Shepherds wheel and Forge Dam out to the Whitehouse at Ringinglow. There's a couple around Forge Dam, where there used to be a cafe - it's been about 20 years since I was there, so whether the cafe is still there I can't say. If you're feeling like braving the buses, get a bus out to Fox House (214/215 from Hunters Bar, which is right by where you're staying) and there's quite a lots of excellent caches around there - Boo's Tunnel of Love (GC1T0F4) is great! GC17HF9 is also very good. There's a few new ones out since we were there earlier in the year. Quote Link to comment
+Mallah
Yes the cafe is still there but the cache closest to it (Raging Rivers) appears to be gone! Plenty of caches within easy reach of Everton Rd to keep you occupied. If you find yourself in Town then Bochum Bell is a good one. Another close by is Central park but I haven't been able to find that after a week of searching? Good Luck Quote Link to comment

+flavioxavier
Was really nice meeting you and your friends Flavio, hope you had a really nice rest of your day Thanks, it was nice meeting you also, and loved your suggested caches, I did almost all of them. If you find your self coming this way (north of Portugal), just send a mail, and I'll help you . Thanks all for the help, I had a very good time in the UK, although a bit short. I specially liked York and the Peek District. Quote Link to comment
