Travel Bugs with specific goals

As more bugs get released, and many with specific goals, is there any way to keep track of these bugs and their goals so that you can easily decide which bugs to go find & move along?

For example, an individual who travels frequently could search the bugs currently in their area and see if any need to be at or near their destination?

I want to release a bug on the Left Coast, w/ a specific location on Long Island as its goal. How can I be sure that it will get the attention of those that can actually help?

I have only done one travel bug so far, and while it hasn't been released yet, it should be by this weekend.

It has a somewhat specific goal, but I really don't want people to try and plan a way for it to reach the goal.

I want it to "wander" around and if it makes it fine, if not, then that is fine also. In theory mine could be reached in only 4 caches if it was planned out, but what would be the fun in that?

I wish I could be so choosy... I've only seen one bug come near me in the last few weeks. I suppose more will come my way, as more people get them.

Anyways, I plan to attach a laminated card to the bug with its goal clearly printed on it. That way the cacher doesn't need to refer to the bug's page to figure out its goal.

Also, when looking for bug to hunt, you can always check the bug page before going for it. The easiest way to do this is search for the nearest caches, and then click through the bug link on the cache page. If the goal matches, go for it.

Make sure you check the logs. I went on a bug hunt recently, and a person picked it up already, and failed to notify the system they had it... so the cache page still lists it as being there. icon_frown.gif

I think getting a handle on bugs in the area is going to be pretty easy once they get started. If Jeremy implements the feature of a bug notification (something like the new cache notification) of a travel bug being dropped off within XX miles of your location, you should quickly get an idea of what bugs are in your area. Then it's a simple matter to visit these bug pages to see what their goals are.

If you're looking for bugs along the way for a driving trip, I'd suggest either posting your intentions in the proper regional forums, or doing a zipcode search for the major cities along the way, and looking for the Travel Bug Icon.

That's why the T.B. icon is worded that "So and So Travel Bug may be in this cache.

We're all still learning.
