Starting out, what to get: eXplorist 500 or Geomate Jr.

I think the Geomate is much too kiddy for a teenager like myself. The explorist would only cost about $20 more since it's on sale right now where I could buy it. Regardless, they both look pretty good for a beginner like myself.

 

Just looking at the specs or maybe you own one, which one to you think I should go for? I'm going to buy it Monday (today due to time) so quick answers/comments would be nice.

Don't get the geomate. It is only does pre loaded caches so you can't upload any new until the updates come out. Its a pain in the butt.

If you want a Garmin product get the eTrex Legend H. You can find them used at Amazon starting at around $75.

The geomate jr. is easier to use if you've never used a gps before. you would need to buy the update kit as well as the handheld, but it works great. I have one that I take on trips and mostly use for unplanned rest area stops.

The eXplorist 500 has been my main gps for over 4 years now, and I love it. it works best, though, if you have the DirectRoute mapping, which you have to buy. But then you can use it for street routing too.
