+Q-Hullu Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) Few days ago I was looking a place for a cache. The primary idea was that the coordinates was related to the idea of the cache. But when I approached the GZ the area was too fragile and beautiful to be destoyed by geoerosion. There was a perfect place for a mid-sized ammo can, but i was afraid that cachers would damage the thick beautiful moss that covered the whole area. The area is also a nature reserve and protected by the law by a directive of EU. http://www.natura.org/ Is it wrong to leave my cache reservation? and explain in the description why this place should not have a cache? I know it actually won't protect everything, but... It's only a few miles from the central of the town and I'm afraid that somene will make a cache here sooner or later without thinking the consequences to the area. Or maybe I should make a an easy micro that can be found right from the path? Edited September 5, 2010 by Q-Hullu Quote

In the United States there areas like wilderness areas, National Parks, Game Preserves and other areas that have cache exclusion policies. Reviewers will not publish caches in such areas. State Parks in many states have policies that require explicit permission to place a cache and without this permission the reviewers will not publish a cache. There are other areas like Native American reservations that require explicit permission and again caches will not be published without this permission. Since this area is protected by law did you ask your reviewer what the policy is on placing caches in the area. You might find that caches will not be published for this area, or for caches to be published explicit permission will be required. Quote
+Bear and Ragged Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Are there any information signs around, that can supply information to make it a Multi-cache? Quote

+Q-Hullu Posted September 5, 2010 Author Posted September 5, 2010 Place a nano on a street sign and block out .1 radius around there. No street signs there, but if the reviewer doesn't give any hope I will make few easy micro caches right next to the route Even I personally don't like micros. Quote
+Chokecherry Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 People stick nanos in pine trees around here... Quote
+The VanDucks Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 We actually have a similar cache in mind; we found a new park, not quite open yet to the public, which is a small nature preserve. I e-mailed a query to the park authority, and they seem willing to consider our cache idea. We are just proposing a magnetic keycase hidden on a bench in a paved area next to the parking lot. It won't be a challenge to any cacher, but just a way to bring people to see a really unusual park. I had not thought of it as a way to protect the preserve from other non-approved caches which might involve walking on the fragile areas, but I guess it would serve that function. Where we live, some cachers do place caches without permission in areas which require permission; they seem to get by the reviewer somehow. Quote
Claudis192 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 It's great your even asking this question. Some people would place the cache without thinking about the damage it could cause. I've got a small geocache placed in an area with long grass. The area around the cache just over a month later is almost flat. I'm thinking two more months before it can be used as a bowling green. I think crop circles are made by Geocachers trying to find their goal. Quote

A few strategically placed caches, in non-fragile spots, would help preserve the more delicate areas around them. Quote
