Getting a larger SD card

I currently have a 4GB SD card in my Oregon 550t. I use it to hold mapping products, specifically City Navigator NA and TOPO U.S. Northeast.

I recently purchased TOPO U.S. Southeast and loaded lots of map segments (a combination from all three products) to the SD card. Everything went fine, but with the 4GB card I have, I knew I wouldn't be able to load all segments of all the maps at the same time.

I'm thinking about moving up to an 8GB card. If I purchase an 8GB card, can I simply copy all the files from my old card to the new card and use the new card in the unit? I guess I'm concerned about whether the maps are somehow tied to the specific SD card I've been using. Has anyone done this and have they encountered any problems?

There appear to be three limits.

1) The number of tiles has to be less than 4000.

2) The maximum single image size is 4 GB.

3) The maximum MicroSD card size should be 32GB.

All three of these come from the Oregon Wiki and the links are below.

Hi Geocachers

I got my new GPS 550t System today and I put a 4sd in it and started to download the caches but the website

says 5 caches only per day per system. How do I get round this? Please email on this subject Thank You Dunstan (Geocacheruk)

I assume you mean only 5 Pocket Queries per day per system? You've got a premium membership (post above seems to have missed that), that allows for this. At a maximum 1,000 caches per Pocket Query, that should fill your 550 nicely. If not -- please elaborate.

You want to download your caches from the Geocaching.com website and not from the my.garmin.com website if you want more that 5 caches per day.
