Howto: Add A Travel Bug Stat Box To Your Profile

A Stat Box is a little icon you can place on your public profile that shows the image, name, mileage, and current location of your Traveler. People can also click on the image to access the bug page.

These are the instructions on how to add a stat box to your profile. (Don't worry, it's not hard to do)

Step 1. Make sure you have a default image set on your bug. This will not work without one.

Step 2. Copy this line of code and paste it into a text editor, like Notepad.

<a href="http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?guid=##########"><img border="0"src="http://img.geocaching.com/stats/tb.aspx?guid=##########"></a>

Step 3. Access your bug page and select Edit This Trackable.

Step 4. In the URL address field of your browser, copy off all the little numbers and letters after the guid=

Step 5. Over in your Text editor replace the ########## with the little numbers and letters. Note: The ########## is listed twice, paste the same information in both locations. (Do not replace anything else except the #'s)

Step 6. Copy all that information in your text editor and paste it into your profile.

I prefer to add an HTML paragraph separator <p> on a line before and after so it doesn't interfere with the other details I have on my profile.

If you are adding multiple bugs do not put any HTML break between them and they will line up side by side on your profile page.

Step 7. Submit and view your profile page. (You may need to refresh the screen)

TADA!

I followed the instructins, and they worked great. Maybe just add a little more instruction clairifying that the same letter/number string is used to replace both sets of ##########.

Some of the pics get a little squished. I guess that is because they need to be square.

Edit: Would be nice if there was a way to get metric up there.

Done. Thank you.

Yeah, and it'll cut off a long TB name. I'm not sure if the system allows for any additional formatting.

You should ask for that in the feedback forum.

Thanks!

Hmmm. I've done all my older ones following the instructions. Why can't I get this one to work?

It's part of a puzzle cache and it would be really helpful to include a stat box to the cache page. I was having trouble before because I didn't have a default image, but I went and uploaded one and still no luck.

Here's my html:

At the top under Read the Forum Guidelines just to the left of the arrow circle. (What is that thing, an antenna?)

I also have the link on my profile.

I'm working on a few other Howto's that if they are worth posting I think we're looking at starting a pinned thread that would include the previously posted Howto threads.

Hey BD, that is so cool!

Thanks for the clear, simple and complete instructions.

Nancy

Edited to add: I tried to do one that didn't have a photo and got the red X; so if you get a red X, I'd say first make sure you have a default photo--adding one after the fact didn't help.

Thanks for the Idiot-Proof instructions...I am not the most Computer-Savvy person around and I was able to figure it out on the first try...Thanks!

Another vote here from us. Brillant and simple instructions so we now have our TB's on our ptofile page. Thanks.

Instructions worked great for me!

and another vote for ....this should be a sticky!

If I ever get off my lazy rear I plan to type up several other howto's and then Eartha will stick everything into one thread. I think the next one should be howto add a photo to a log of a tb. That seems to be a common question.

And I just noticed the forum added scrolling to the text of code I provided. I need to see if I can find away around that.

As always, all questions and comments are welcome. You can even contact me directly if you aren't comfortable posting here. No question is too silly or stupid. Ask away.

Now, is there a way to get a CACHE's statistics (last find, difficulty/terrain, etc) as a stat box like this?

I added this to a request on the website...

Hmmmmm.... nice thought maybe, but re-read step 1.....

Step 1. Make sure you have a default image set on your bug. This will not work without one.

Most cache pages don't have a default image. Do any of them?
